Saw it today. Was disinclined to go as The Shining remains one of my all-time faves, but was persuaded as Kermode liked it and I trust him. Utter bollocks, massively over-long, McGregor's awful accent and some thoroughly nasty violence on a child. Shite, in a nutshell.

I liked it. For a Stephen Kind adaption it was one of the decent ones. There's so very few in this category!!

The violence against a child was utterly gruesome. No question about that. It's meant to be surely, hardly going to make it an amusing scence.

Would also disagree that McGregor wasn't good in it. Mind you I never really bothered accents, unless they are totally off the mark.

Definitely a follow on from The Shining film rather than a book adaptation. I appreciated the redone shots from the film. Felt they were well done and casted (with the exception of one).

It is a bit too long though!! Best avoid drinking a lot before or at the start!!

I can't decide if it's worth seeing. Most of the reviews have been poor but dh is also a Kermode fan and usually agrees with his opinion.

But 152 mins??

Just back from watching this, I absolutely loved it. You could've heard a pin drop in the cinema, everyone was captivated. Yes, the child murder scenes are absolutely horrific, but necessary to tell the story properly.

I am a huge fan of The Shining book, have read it umpteen times. Dr Sleep is more of a sequel to the Stanley Kubrick film rather than staying true to The Shining but it is still amazing and a real credit to both books.

Went to see it at the weekend as I liked the book; I thought it was a good adaptation, some changes and a good follow on from Stanley kubrick’s film rather than Stephen King’s book of The Shining. I agree with Squigean and MyNameIsAlexDrake I really did believe Ewan MacGregor was Danny grown up and I also thought Rebecca Ferguson gave a nefarious performance as Rose the Hat.

II wasn’t a fan of the original film and preferred the book so I was prepared to be disappointed in this as I really really loved the Dr Sleep book when it came out. I prepared by re-watching The Shining the night before I went to see Dr Sleep. I’m glad I did as the new movie has many visual allusions to the old one and I would have missed a lot of them without my early revision.

I thought the acting and characterisation were great, I believed in all three protagonists and they closely matched my mental vision of them which is always a bonus. I loved that the first couple of hours kept so closely to the book. It was overlong and I thought the final 40 minutes or so were not nearly as good as the beginning but overall I surprised myself and really loved it.
