Feel like worst mother. I just found out that my 13 Yr old watched suicide squad. My dh thinks it's fine but the fact she's seen that amount of violence has worried me (we sat down for 'movie night' and this is what she chose.
I don't know how to stop her from watching films too old for her, especially since dh doesn't think its an issue.

I really do think it’s a shame they don’t make more stuff for ‘whole family ‘ viewing. Doctor Who and a Series of Unfortunate events are all I can find that my 11YO and 13 YO will watch with us that’s not a 15.

I've been looking for entertaining shows to watch with DD1 (11) - we watch plenty of history and natural history shows but it's not really the same. All I can find that is 12 rated that I could bear to watch is Outnumbered and dinnerladies (Red Dwarf and Yes Minister are also 12 but suspect they might not have dated well). We're currently watching Glee (all series are 12 rated except series 4) and Veronica Mars is a 12 so we'll watch that as well. Dirty Dancing is a 12 as well bizarrely!

Oh I tell you what - Dad’s Army is brilliant and the kids love it. Blackadder and Upstart Crow too; and I’ve said this before, but if you don’t mind swearing Detectorists is very brilliant for 10+

Though some Blackadder is a 15, as I only noticed after my 7yo watched it. My 10yo loved all of series 2 and 3 - never seen him laugh so much - but too much of the humour went over 7yo's head.

My parents took me to see 18s when I was 12-13, on the grounds that if I didn't understand the adult content it wasn't a problem, and if I did there wasn't much point not letting me see it. Witches of Eastwick was one I remember.

Ds now 16 went to watch the Inbetweeners movie when he was 12. It was a 15.

No big deal.

These are all 15s. Most modern comedies are and since I'm looking for shows for my 9 and 11yo to watch I don't really want to go above a 12 at the moment. I also have a mini feminist who wants female led stuff just to limit things further!

Just to add, to make the OP feel better I was watching Lucy Worsley's history of opera with DD1 (11). The last opera she discussed? Strauss's Salome. Clips of the opera included a naked man covered in blood presenting Salome with the head of John the Baptist and Salome then writhing on the stage hugging and kissing John the Baptist before she herself is killed. So I think I win the 'bad parent' award! Bloody historians, Mary Beard made DD2 ask what a prostitute was when she was only 7.

I've a 13yo dd and it is tricky getting the balance right sometimes. She's watched a few 15 rated films and watch Stranger Things on Netflix which she loved.

But I would only let her watch a 15 if I've already seen it first! She is sensitive though and doesn't like being too scared.

Blimey. I was regularly watching 18s from 14. Including zombie and other horror films. A 15 would have been going backwards.
