I have seen the trailer and it looks good. Has anyone seen it?

Stan Laurel was married 5 times - twice to the same woman. He had 2 children- one who died at 9 days old - and Hardy didn’t have any.
I found it really sad that Laurel continued to write stuff for the two of them even after Hardy’s death.

I loved it too. Shirley Henderson isn't the same in everything! She's completely different in Harry Potter, Happy Valley and this. Steve Coogan and John C Reilly were amazing

Funkyslippers · 15/01/2019 19:38

Have to say though, it's not really for kids. My 16 year old DD was a bit bored as she didn't know who they were (and didn't really find them funny)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/01/2019 20:00

Agree it's not really for kids.

Disagree re Shirley H - she was almost exactly the same in this as she is in Miss Pettigrew and Bridget Jones. I love her look, but do feel she lacks range. I haven't seen Happy Valley.

Ooh sitting in the cinema waiting for it to start!

ProfessionallyUnoffended · 15/01/2019 22:55

Wow, what a lovely film. The acting is just fabulous and I enjoyed every minute of it. Tissues were required towards the end! Best film I have seen in quite a while. If you plan to go, you are in for a treat.

Beautifully acted, subtly written. DH and I came out saying, 'Is easy as cek!' to each other.

If anyone's appetite for movie studio politics has been whetted, give Karina Longworth's You Must Remember This podcasts a try - the stories of how some stars made a fortune while talented contemporaries just missed out is a frequent, poignant theme.

Mitsouko67 · 17/01/2019 21:49

Went with my friend, we both enjoyed it. Wonderful acting from both leads and I loved the Russian girlfriend. I cried which I don't often do at the movies.

Loved Hardy 's determination to live life to the full while he could.

EverybodyLovesRaymond · 17/01/2019 22:31

Been tonight and I loved it. Made me laugh, cry and the acting is brilliant. I am a Steve Coogan fan but both were just amazing.

MargueritaPink · 19/01/2019 23:29

Just agreeing with everyone else. Beautifully acted and very moving.
Irrelevant but Steve Coogan's suits and overcoats are beautifully tailored.

I saw Collette last week , which I thought was OK but now seems insipid compared to Stan and Ollie.

Oh my, what a film. Couldn't help the tears at the end. Genuinely very moving and all the performances were just perfect.

Well, we took the DC and they loved it too...although they're starting to think that I can't see a film without sobbing as the last 3 we've seen, I've cried (Bohemian Rhapsody, Mary Poppins Returns & this!!)

VictoriaBun · 21/01/2019 17:21

Well I'm in the minority here. Was really looking forward to seeing it after all the fantastic reviews on here. Went with two friends and we were meh about it. None of us cried.

Urwotu8t · 21/01/2019 20:44

I remained unmoved, but DH had a little blubber. However he is a huge L&H fan, and even helped crowd fund the publication of the book it was based on.

cafesociety · 22/01/2019 19:45

VictoriaBun I also thought it tame and didn't enjoy it as I thought I would from seeing trailers. It was all a bit flat, just plodded along. Very predictable. I didn't laugh or cry.

On the other hand I just loved The Favourite, brilliant film, great acting.

Snugglepiggy · 27/01/2019 20:44

Well I wasn't sure from the trailers wether to go but reading excellent reviews persuaded DH to watch it with me.We both thought it was a lovely film, superbly acted -Steve Coogan and JC Reilly both nailed it.I had a little weep at the end.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 31/01/2019 19:14

My mum was a big L&H fan, and went to see them when they came to Birmingham. We saw the film last night and both really enjoyed it. In places, it's heartbreaking and I had a cry at the end. Now my DH wants to go and see it.

AuntieOxident · 31/01/2019 19:19

I agree with everyone else, it’s a sweet, touching film with wonderful performances. I also enjoyed the period detail (the Savoy looks wonderful) and the costumes - Stan Laurel’s tailoring was superb in the latter half of the film.

Dowser · 10/07/2019 10:58

Never fancied it when it was doing its main tour but it’s popped up in our little N Yorks town at the entertainment centre
So on your recommendations I think we will go
