Saw this last night......a towering effort from the actress playing The Sparrow..she seemed to be on screen for about 80% of the 140mins.
yes, a long film but it does not drag. The singing is lip synched very well ( or that actress is in the wrong job!). There are some faults with it > but still very recommended. Ta.

Have heard great reviews about it - if only I could convince someone to go with me
Also would like to see a french film - atleast I think its french - "Tell No-one". Got a great review last weekend.

if your anywhere in NW England, would be happy to see again!! Was with a French friend of mine and she approved of it. No faint praise!!

I went to see this today - fantastic! I thought the little girl playing Edith as a child was wonderful as well.

I think I'd have enjoyed it even more if I'd known her life story, as Pan said it was basically scenes from her life and sometimes which were obviously highly significant but it wasn't always possible to see how they all fitted together. Has inspired me to track down her autobiography.

The music was amazing and that was reason enough for going to see it frankly. I didn't realise though that Je ne regrette rien was only written in 1960. I assumed it was a much older song.

The woman beside me sobbed from beginning to end so I assume she was a fan...

Did your audience applaud at the end?? Ours did. Very French.

also, my mate beside me kept weeping. I just whispered to him " Stop crying ya big wimp.."

No, but they all sat silently stunned through the credits. Would have preferred applause.

Did the little girl do her own singing in the scene with her dad? If so she has an impressive set of pipes!

Wouldn't mind seeing it actually.

Will probably have to wait until it comes out on dvd though (ie, probaby fairly soon).

I haven't been to the cinema for several years believe it or not!

Pan · 30/06/2007 22:23

I don't know about that.

And v. strange how they missed out WW11 !! As I recall being aware, she was a figure in the Resistance.

Just watched this. Amazing. Get the DVD

Best actress performance I've seen in years. The transformation is shocking.

I had no idea she'd had that much pain in her life. I cried a lot too.

Must see.

Just resurecting this thread after seeing it on TV over Christmas.

Anyone else see it? Thought it was absolutely brilliant and Marion Cotillard was just amazing. I can't stop thinking about it and really want to read more about Piaf now.

it's on tonight, thought as 12.40
