Went to watch this with dd9.

Beautiful animation and flow.

Came out of that film feeling some kind of chilled, peaceful vibe.

I would say it is for more mature kids and younger ones would be bored, but it was just so lovely.

And I am not an animal person. Am I allowed to say that on mn without sounding evil? Grin

I'm glad you enjoyed it, though we ( family group with older teens into film), didn't really. Animation was very clever and detailed but plot was thin and hard to follow, we felt it didn't do the craft and efforts of the animators much justice. Still, we were able to do lots of critical evaluation in the car going home!Smile

If you’re in/near London there’s a fantastic and free exhibition of many of the sets used. Well worth going to. It’s near Somerset House and on until the 6th.

I enjoyed this film very much, typical quirky Wes Anderson. Not a film for younger children.

PNGirl · 02/04/2018 14:53

I loved it.

Iamtheresurrection · 02/04/2018 17:45

I took my young DC (5) to see this. He seemed to enjoy it but he's obsessed with dogs. I quite enjoyed the film but was a bit worried that it was too old for him which made me on edge.

Took the whole family to watch this last night . It’s not really for kids, my three boys didn’t enjoy it at all aged 9,13 and 15. But I think my friends Son who loves all things Japanese and is learning mandarin will probably love it.

FishesaPlenty · 03/04/2018 10:20

Hmm. Very well made and a lot of effort had obviously gone into it but I was left thinking "why bother". I thought there must have been some hidden meaning that had gone over my head. Apparently not though.

My friend said "that's 2 hours of my life I won't get back". Astonishingly the two boys, 8 & 9, sat and watched it without playing up.

A very odd way to spend an Easter bank holiday.

I loved it and thought it was superb (love Japan, dogs and Wes Anderson)! My husband and I were the only people in the cinema without our children though, which we found a bit baffling. I think the fact it's a PG and animation led people to think it's a kids' film. It's really quite dark in places though.

WhereShallWeGo · 16/04/2018 15:27

Saw this today with 3 kids (14&12). We all loved it but agreed it’s not for younger children. Quirky and characterful.

Bespin · 21/04/2018 18:01

Really love wes Anderson so really want to see this one.

MrsJamin · 22/04/2018 18:39

Went today with another adult and my two boys 8 & 10 years old. They weren't that keen. I thought it was alright but it was quite dark. I am not sure who it's aimed at. Another family in the cinema had a 5/6 year old who was obviously bored, it was quite distracting so please don't take young children if you can help it. If they don't get the trailer just watch it on on-demand with people who might like it instead.

Saw this today with ds - had to wait ages for it to come to our little cinema so we had a big build-up. I thought it looked absolutely stunning and the soundtrack is fantastic but it hasn't got the humour or heart of Grand Budapest Hotel (my fave WA film) or Fantastic Mr Fox (ds' fave).

boatyardblues · 13/05/2018 08:42

I am returning to this thread to say my 10 year old LOVED Isle of Dogs and my 12 yo enjoyed it too. We’d planned to go & then I saw this thread and raised the “not a kids’ film” view. We pondered as a family whether to stick with plan A and see it, but went ahead. DS2 said he was completely gripped by the story and I think particularly enjoyed having the boy at the centre of it. I suppose it depends what your kids are like, but don’t write it off as a family film. We like Wes Anderson’s films and Fantastic Mr Fox is a firm family favourite, which perhaps meant my kids were ready for more WA whimsy than others might be.

Usuallytootiredbuthappyanyway · 13/05/2018 08:49

I loved it, in fact, within the opening sequence I had already decided that it was my new favourite film of all time! I do love WA’s style though and am way more into cinematography and design than I am story line.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 23/05/2018 17:19

I thought it was delightful and the animation was superb. Not as good overall as Grand Budapest Hotel but I enjoyed it

staydazzling · 02/02/2019 19:14

we tried this on nowtv i think we got 10 mins in, my 9 year old said "how is this a PG!!" I think it's just a bit tooo wierd and dark.
