Just wanted to gloat as I think its just being released today in UK

Fantastic effects, a really evil looking Venon and some great action scenes with the New Goblin and Sandman. I went with 2 of my kids and another 4 of ds1's mates! Loved it

speccy, its a 12 in Holland too. I took my 5 year old as they are quite lax here regarding classifications as long as a parent goes with. It is pretty violent, and the special effects (I'm thinking of the razor blade -like teeth of the new Venom character) are quite scary. My youngest dc wasn't bothered but I imagine a lot might be.

Was very cool though!!

excellent film. very scary though the sound effects made me jump on their own.

noddyholder · 05/05/2007 14:47

My dp ds and all his little annoying mates are going tonight and then coming back here for pizza and a sleepover Hope they don't tried to scale the walls when they get home!

misdee · 05/05/2007 14:49

i am hoping to see this this week, if i can get a babysitter sorted for littlist one.

allieBongo · 05/05/2007 14:50

is it suitable for a 7 yr old??

southeastastra · 05/05/2007 14:55

it depends on the 7 year old really, it's quite scary and there's quite alot of dialogue, it's over 2 hours long!

i took my 13 year old son and wouldn't have taken my 5 year old, but saying that there were small ones in there who seemed to like it.

roisin · 05/05/2007 14:55

Please give some more info on reasons for the 12A classification.

Spiderman merchandising everywhere, and the playgrounds are full of it. I have said "no way" to ds2 (8 on Tuesday). He's always been a very sensitive little flower as far as films have been concerned; but seems to have grown out of that in the last few months. But he's never seen a 12A even on DVD, and I can't imagine it's appropriate for him.

noddyholder · 05/05/2007 14:56

My ds is 13 but has loved spiderman ever since I can remember and has seen them all even when quite young. It does depend on the child and how scary they find these things in general

allieBongo · 05/05/2007 14:58

he is just 7. i think he would get bored...

Gobbledigook · 05/05/2007 15:00

Agree Roisin - it's strange isn't it? THe film is aimed at 12+ but how many 12, 13 and 14 year olds will be sporting a Spiderman lunchbox or t=shirt?! They won't - it will be the reception, yr 1 and yr 2 kids (5-7)!!

Ds1 (6) saw a trailer for it last night and thought it looked fab (inappropriate trailer I know - we were in A&E - another story!) - dh is telling me 'no way', it's too scary - evil Spiderman turns to sand or something!?

it's hard for me to say. though this one is more 'darker' than the others. venom is especially nasty to look at with sharp pointy teeth and as i said earlier the sound effects are loud (grumbling whenever the sandman appears).

it's quite funny when spidey goes 'gothy'.

imho i would say it's more of a film aimed at 10s and over. but it really depends on the child and if they could sit through it. (slightly overlong, lots of romance etc). could have done with more action shots really.

i'd be interested what others who have seen it think.

southeastastra · 05/05/2007 15:16

and the other two had alot more laughs in them

roisin · 05/05/2007 15:48

We went to town today to look for Doctor Who party paraphernalia for ds2's party: and everything was Spiderman everywhere. It is extremely irritating.

I can't remember when Spiderman 2 came out, but I remember ds1 wasn't allowed to go and see it at the time; so we have got a precedent to follow!

popsycal · 05/05/2007 15:53

ds1 who is newarly 5 really wants to see it....
hmmmm
not going to happen

Budababe · 05/05/2007 16:21

My DS is nearly 6 and tells me that he is too old for Spiderman! Fine by me!

Gobbledigook · 05/05/2007 16:26

Just looked on Amazon - the first one was a 12 but Spiderman 2 was PG. Weird!

Great trailer for S3 on Amazon though!

roisin · 05/05/2007 16:48

I saw that too GDG. I have an awful memory, but I seem to remember some kind of controversy about the classification of Spiderman2. It was 2004, so ds1 was probably 7 at the time; and I'm surprised I wouldn't have let him see a PG (but then he is pfb and ds2 gets to do everything earlier), but I think there were additional issues.

Gobbledigook · 05/05/2007 16:52

Oh really? I don't remember that and in 2004 it would not have been an issue for us as ds1 was only 3 and had no interest in it whatsoever!

Hmmm, he's deffo not going to see it anyway.

roisin · 05/05/2007 16:54

Oh, guess what, we discussed it on here! Now there's a surprise.

here's a thread

here's another

I didn't get involved on mn. I just remember for some reason it was a no-brainer for me - but I have no idea why!

roisin · 05/05/2007 17:00

Ah I've remembered it now:
Spiderman 1 was 12 cert.
Spiderman 2 was PG.

But reviews said 2 was scarier than 1.
And several mumsnetters (on that thread) said they actually had to leave the cinema with their young children.

Apparently 3 is much darker and bleaker than 2: hence the 12A. I don't think ds2 has even seen the other two on DVD.

Now, does anyone know anything about bridge to Taribithia as an alternative?
