I actually found 47 Metres Down very scary!

47 Metres Down is scary but not a horror in any sense of the word. It's a diving accident film.

Wake Wood on netflix is an Irish supernatural horror film. It is very creepy.

In terms of conventional horror, Hush and The Strangers get my vote.

47 meters down is actually not a horror movie. Its about two sisters who gets trapped in shark cage 47 meters deep in the ocean and the shark keeps coming at them and one of the sisters doesn't make it.
Recently I watched Annabelle creation and it was scarier than any I've watched before.

I've seen the Trailer for Chucky Cult, That looks pretty freaky, and I think it's available to watch now.

I didn’t say it was a horror. But I did say I found it very scary which I did.

I thought the OP was looking for unconventional horror/scary films. Massive spoiler alert though Lily.

Wow. The OP asks for alternatives and a poster suggests a 'different' scary alternative and two posters get all pedantic with one giving a massive unannounced spoiler. Wish I'd never clicked on this thread.

It’s impossible to say OP unless you give some examples of what you like and have watched. Otherwise it would just be ‘seen it, seen it,seen it......’

Babadook (spelling?). Great Australian freaky film. I'd like to know how a single Mum could afford a huge beautiful old house like the one in the film 😂. Think it is filmed in Melbourne or Sydney. That'd put the house's value at over a million dollars. And poor Babadook has to live in the cellar. Which 99% of homes in Australia don't have.

Original Changeling movie. Has one of the Sutherland actors in it I think.

What about old 50's and 60's horrors? Like Haunted House and whatnot? More like pathological horrors.

I found Babadook quite humorous rather than scary. I don't know why but I felt it was supposed to be a horror comedy, like Drag Me To Hell.

The only films that have made me hide behind a pillow at certain points are the first Conjuring, first Annabelle, and the first Paranormal Activity.

i really love the horror genre but it's so hard to find a horror film that isn't full of cliches or just a rehashed version of another film.

Cabin in the Woods was original, but not at all scary.

Oh - there was one recently I saw actually which i loved. It was a possession movie. Brilliantly acted. Taking of Deborah Logan.

Got a bit melodramatic at the end though.

John Carpenter's The Fog (i shiver just typing it!).
The 9th Gate with Johnny Depp and Lena Olin spooked me, it has the devil in it.

I recommend Pulse, a Japanese horror film by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (not to be confused with the West Craven rewrite starring Kristen Bell). It's not the scariest horror film I've seen, but it really got under my skin. It doesn't follow any traditional horror narrative, so you never really know where it's going or what's going to happen next. One of those films that just leaves you sitting there on your sofa thinking "well, alrighty-then, um, I think I'd better find something normal to do for a while" iyswim.

Aso, Rec, the original Spanish version (again, not to be confused with the US remake). That one really IS scary.

I love a horror film, some excellent ones already mentioned by pps, but the last one I saw that stayed with me for a long time after I’d seen it was The Banshee Chapter - I found it really unsettling.
