I've just watched this on the bbc iplayer - I hadn't seen it before.

I loved it! Funny, interesting story, incredibly moving, fantastic soundtrack and great cultural references from the 1980s.

Anyone else seen it?

Fantastic film! Loved it, it's just the perfect balance of humour and pathos, the actors are all brilliant and the end has me welling up every time.

BestIsWest · 28/08/2017 21:01

It's fantastic. One of the best films of the last few years. I found it very emotional as it's set during the time I met DH and he was working in the area at the time. Lots and lots of memories.

MintToBee · 16/09/2017 18:59

Absolutely brilliant. Loved it.

Great film, great acting. Do Sputh Wales ❤️

BBCK · 16/09/2017 19:03

So South Wales

Haven't watched it. I kind of don't like to watch the old screen look but will have a look this weekend since it sounds good.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2017 20:42

It's superb. Have watched it so many times and it doesn't lose its magic.

At last! An excuse to post this!!

Funny. Tragic. Beautifully acted. Even the cameo parts were stunning.

The meeting with the ex-boyfriend on the nightclub stairs was awful. Without saying what was wrong, you just knew what his 'farewell tour" was all about.

The final caption when you realised just how young the Northern Irish lad was when he died was shocking.

Kudos to the American actor for that spot on Northern Irish accent.

pontiouspilates · 03/10/2017 20:57

I saw it last year and loved it too. Totally 'feel good' and it really stayed with me

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/10/2017 17:31

I watched earlier this year - it was brilliant!

BagelGoesWalking · 12/10/2017 15:10

Absolutely love it! Watched it for about the 4th time on iPlayer recently.

The actor who played Mark Ashton was amazing, didn’t realise he was American! And so sad that the real person died so young, I always think what he might have gone on to do/achieve, had he lived. The scene on the stairs with the ex is so, so sad. Russell Tovey did that brilliantly considering how short it was.

Loved all the characters. Brilliant.

scrabbler3 · 19/11/2017 21:33

This is one of the best films I've seen.

emsiewill · 19/11/2017 22:06

I absolutely love this film. I am an 80's child, so the period / music is one that is very familiar to me. I now live in South Wales, so the setting and history resonates. And I find "history" that happened in my lifetime fascinating.

Everything about this film makes me happy and makes me cry!

OutComeTheWolves · 19/11/2017 22:46

Oh I love this film so much. The final scene (power in a union) is my favourite scene in any film ever.

Angelalley · 19/11/2017 22:48

Loved it

Vango · 19/11/2017 22:51

Watched it earlier this year for Andrew Scott. Loved it.

PerkingFaintly · 19/11/2017 22:54

Love this film. The last few scenes... including the bios of the real life people.

moutonfou · 19/11/2017 22:56

I loved it too. Perfect mix of feel good but also thought-provoking and a story worth telling.

As an aside, there was a controversy over the US release of the DVD as they had removed any reference to gay people and even described them on the blurb as just a "group of activists" !

PerkingFaintly · 19/11/2017 22:57

Including a happy sob for Jonathan. I actually gasped and cried.

RosaTheOwl · 19/11/2017 23:01

Love this, absolute classic.
