Anyone seen Blood Brothers?

Hi. Wasn't sure where to post this but wondering if anyone has seen Blood Brothers at the theatre and could describe what type of musical it is/provide some info? I'm thinking of buying tickets for my DH for Christmas who likes a good play but has mixed feelings about musicals and they have to be not a musical for the sake of it iykwim?!! The story also sounds like it might have makd appeal?! Any tips advice much appreciated. Thanks

We really like it - it is probably DH's favourite musical - it has funny moments and sad moments and the songs are amazing. I would go and see it again and we have been several times over the years (this is a ringing endorsement from me, as I usually like to see something different).

It is brilliant, touching without being too mawkish, some funny bits, and yes, quite "blokey" for a musical. I think it's the only musical I've seen twice, admittedly 15 years apart.

I thought it was pretty mawkish to be honest with a ridiculous storyline, I didn't like it all. However, it's been going for years so who am I to argue against it.

DH loves Blood Brothers. We have seen t so many times.

It's on the GCSE syllabus so definately not a musical for the sake of it.

Willy Russell is a great playwright , Blood Brothers is very moving.

I struggle with musical theatre, but my Dd adores it, so I accompany her but a bit reluctantly. I have to say, I loved Blood Brothers, I even found myself crying at the final scene, which is so unlike me because I struggle to engage with musicals.So I reckon your Husband will definitely like it.

A friend bought me tickets and I went along not knowing what to expect. I loved it. It was very different to other musicals I've seen and brilliant.

Absolutely brilliant.

A bit dated and melodramatic. I saw it as a teenager and let bed it. When I took DH to see it ten years later, I was a bit embarrassed that I'd bought into the high-octane emotion first time around.

Music is very eighties (pop synth) and for some reason (poor writing?) everything seems to have to rhyme with Maralyn Monroe.

You are almost guaranteed to see a Nolan sister in the lead role though.

It's my favourite musical by far. I also like billy Elliott and mamma Mia (hated the film) and Book of Mormon. I would definitely go.

I've seen it twice, love it. It's not your typical happy, flowery musical (though thinking about it most musicals have quite grim stories). Think Ken Loach does musicals. I'd say probably a good one for your husband.

Both my ds 21 and dh loved it. Dh has seen it twice over 2o years apart and i have seen it 3 times. Never seen a nolan sister but it was an unknown Caroline Quentin when i first saw it.

It's more of a play with songs than a musical. Dh saw it at school, and we both saw it at college. We enjoyed it. It's probably quite dated now, but it's good if you like 20th century pop and social commentary. I think that it goes from the 40s through to the 80s, set in Liverpool.

I love it and have seen it a few times. My DH came with me the most recent time I saw it and he enjoyed it too.
