Has anyone seen it? Ken Loach at his best.

Properly broke my heart. Scary how close anyone is from rock bottom & how treating people in such an inhumane way can destroy someone. Great, real performances too- bravo the cast.

Just this minute finished watching on Netflix. It is a realistic portrayal I'm afraid

FusionChefGeoff · 18/03/2017 22:17

God, I've just finished this and really want to talk about it but I'm home alone and it's too late to call anyone. I feel almost disgusted with how much money we have and how much we waste and take for granted. We don't reach 6 figures or anything like that but still, I sobbed and sobbed that this is the country I live in and some people have s little and are forced to such extremes.

I am definitely looking up local hardship charities and food banks right now and getting some regular giving in place, this is just so shit i'm struggling to rationalise it. We're supposed to be moving house soon but now that just seems so extravagant and unnecessary. And yet, I know I'm still going to do it and am too selfish to do anything really drastic. Which makes me feel like a terrible person.

What a fucking incredible film and agree the acting was phenomenal.

I'm going to be thinking about this for a long time. Sad

Resurrecting the thread as I finally saw this last night.
I have honestly never cried so much at a film. When the girl asked for sanitary towels and then ate the beans I just cried and cried.
I'm going to buy loads of SAN pro and other stuff to take to the good bank and volunteer too.
I'm a SW and was a single mother for years so I'm not exactly blinkered but this really hammered it home. 😩

I meant to watch this last year in the cinema but never got round to it. It doesnt seem to be on netflix. Does anyone have any tips on where to watch it?
Thank you

Ledkr · 17/11/2017 13:57

It's on Amazon.
I started my first day st the food bank today solely because of this film,

Ssdw · 17/11/2017 14:17

Thank you ledkr
And good luck with the volunteering

Bunglecunt · 23/12/2017 18:56

Good on you Ledkr! I watched this film about 6 months ago and still feel disturbed by it. I love Ken Loach and I really want to see Cathy come home but need to psych myself up first.

ForalltheSaints · 04/01/2018 20:49

I saw it at the cinema about a year ago, and agree it is a very moving film. I'd been warned about some of the most heartbreaking scenes though, which was probably why I did not cry. Apparently when it was shown at Cannes some of the jurors and critics cried.

Thanks for the heads up
Just watched it
I would have missed it otherwise
