I do - namely because I get really bad insomnia at this time of year.

How do you choose your dvds? I have just copied a load on a list from here. I have a really bad memory for film titles and often run out of steam and just pick any old thing. I love tv series and I don't get a chance to watch much - worked my way through all of shameless last year but what next????

How do you do yours?

dh and I keep thinking about whether to do this or not. Can I ask which company you use. Are they any good?

blockbusters. We did not do loads of research but my sister uses them. They are really quick at returning stuff. You just make an online list of what you like and they post it, you send it back in a return envelope and they post back your next one really quick. We have 3 at a time, I usually have 2 for us and 1 for the children (they have just enjoyed curious george.) It is great for rainy sunday afternoons and for me and dp when there is nothing on telly - which is most nights at the moment.

Apart from the problem I mentioned has been a good experience.

great for catching up on all the films you missed at the cinema (if you can remember what they are) and if they are rubbish you don't feel bad about just posting ti back without waching it (not like if you have rented it!)

I watched 15mins of the da vinci code and it was back in the post - am watching best in show tonight and memoirs of a geisha if I can't sleep.

OK DH keeps trying to convince me that this will be better than going to the shop and having to remember to take them back... but I am concerned with the "post them back in the envelope provided" mechanism... what happens if they get lost in the post??

DimpledThighs · 23/01/2007 21:36

never have got lost in the post - I guess that would sort that not you. I never do proof of posting or anything, just sling them in the letterbox!

Notanotter, yes I think I did copy your list. It is a good idea asking on here. Might trawl back through old posts to find similar.

Pruni - was it prisoner cell block H?

We are with amazon. Really prefer to shop as no late fines and it does force you to watch films which otherwise I'd never get round to. Great for kids films to as you can keep them for a month and then get rid of them instead of them clogging your shelves for ever.

I've had several of mine go missing on the way back (never on the way here though!) - you just report it as missing and they either send a replacement or the next on your list. Same if its faulty. They don't seem to question it or anything.

I look on here quite often for new ideas for films. Have found some wonderful ones on here I'd never have come across otherwise. I've also got an email stored in my drafts now where I jot down any films I see on TV or in the guardian reviews that I think will be worth watching when they a released. Also the Amazon whats new page lists all films and TV series due for release.

Toying with switching to one which allows you to rent games as well now, I think WH Smiths allows that but to be honest I've never found any other site as good value as amazon.

We are on a 3 month free trial with lovefilm, don't know if we will keep it going when 3 months is up though.

doggiesayswoof · 24/01/2007 12:45

Lovefilm has a 'did you miss' section with films recently at cinema - I use that to jog my memory. Also with lovefilm, you can add films not yet out on dvd and they will jump on to your list when the release date comes around. So I go through film reviews in the papers and add ones I fancy knowing that I will most likely never get the chance to see them at the cinema...

bookends · 24/01/2007 17:49

A year or two ago they had the best 100 kids films and I added the ones I thought the kids would like to that list.

I have used Lovefilm for a couple of years and no probs. It's a lovely surprise to find them on the mat, but then I am a saddo!

I force the dds to watch a lot of 70's stuff - they do not suffer in silence.

I also spent a lovely week watching all of 'Bleak House'. Dh and I have caught up with 'Sopranos' and hope to catch up with 'West Wing'.
