I love these films but know them so well now. I'd like to find something with a similar feel - I like the Zorro films but I think I want slightly more of a fairytale.

Any suggestions please?

If you like comics, I enjoyed Scott Pilgrim v The world. An enjoyable romp with some good comedy

ISaySteadyOn · 27/05/2016 15:16

Willow, of course
Labyrinth

Odmedod · 27/05/2016 15:16

Never-ending Story?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/05/2016 10:44

I shall have a look for these, thank you everyone Smile

Ella Enchanted was one of my favourite books when I was younger - I'll read/watch most things, but this is a genre I've always loved.

Mirrormask and Coraline (both adaptations of other Neil Gaiman books), the three Terry Pratchett film adaptations (hogfather, going postal and the colour of magic.)

Never-ending Story?

littlejeopardy · 28/05/2016 11:26

Not a film but there was a TV mini series called the 10th Kingdom that was a mixture of fairy tales, comedy and adventure. It was brilliant!

mogloveseggs · 28/05/2016 11:28

Have no suggestions but just came on to say a Knights tale is on channel w at teatime tonight

Stinkerbelle37 · 28/05/2016 11:31

I love the slipper and the rose!

LeaningJowler · 28/05/2016 11:33

How about The Bridge to Terabithia?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/05/2016 11:37

Willow. We have watched all three with DS(9) recently. Great family films.

GrouchyKiwi · 28/05/2016 12:47

Ooh, if you didn't washcloth Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell when it was on then you might want to give that a go.

GrouchyKiwi · 28/05/2016 12:48

Watch, not washcloth. Blush

emilybohemia · 28/05/2016 12:59

Legend. Stars Tom Cruise and has unicorns in it. Willow is ace too. The Company of Wolves is good, but a bit weird and dark. Some people find it a bit naff but I love it.

The Brother's Grimm by Terry Gilliam looks good although I've not seen it. The brothers are travelling con artists in it that are struck by a fairytale curse.

MewlingQuim · 28/05/2016 13:12

Doesn't Bridge to Terabithia have a really horrible sad ending? I seen to remember sobbing Blush

I love A Knight's tale, Oh brother where art thou and Willow, all are watchable with four year old DD too and make a great change from Disney. DH and DD liked Maleficent but I couldn't get into it.

MewlingQuim · 28/05/2016 13:14

I need to watch the Terry Pratchet films, don't I. How on earth did I miss those?

Stiddleficks · 28/05/2016 13:47

The spiderwick chronicles is quite good, especially for kids.

jessplussomeonenew · 28/05/2016 19:49

Ah, littlejeopardy, I enjoyed that too! I still think of the shepherdess competition it every time I hear "We will rock you"...

littlejeopardy · 28/05/2016 20:00

Ha ha, me too!

'We will, we will shear you! '

I wish they would do a second series.

Merd · 28/05/2016 20:07

Oh god yes, Bridge to Terabithia was unexpectedly depressing. Avoid!!

Definitely Legend, Labyrinth, 10th Kingdom. How about things like Robin Hood Men in Tights and Monty Python for the humour? Also Ever After; Series of Unfortunate Events (bit dark that one).

If you have Netflix I quite enjoyed Jane The Virgin recently which has a vaguely similarish humour feel, not too fairy-tale-ish though.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 29/05/2016 22:06

Mewling I think they might have been on Sky? I should watch them, I'm just worried they won't match up to how I imagine them...

Bridge to Terabithia was horribly, upsettingly sad.

I loved Maleficent. It was wonderful. Me and my boys really enjoyed it. Angelina is mesmerising.
