Unconvincing leading men / women

Having just watched the Alfie remake my nomination would have to be Jude Law. He didn't come across as a charming, charismatic ladies' man. Just a smug twatty man-child. Maybe that's what they were going for? I haven't seen the original so i don't know if Michael Cane portrayed the character differently. I always felt sorry for Cameron Diaz's character in The Holiday being numbered with him too. In my mind he just isn't convincing as a romantic lead.

Who are your most unconvincing actors?

Andi McDowell in Four Weddings!

What the hell was all that about?

exWifebeginsat40 · 22/11/2015 17:27

Andie McDowell in Four Weddings. Made of wood, cold and stilted.

TheDowagerCuntess · 22/11/2015 17:32

Nicole Kidman in Australia. It was meant to be a sweeping epic of a movie/love story, of the sort to rival Gone With The Wind, and she was just so cringeworthily hammy. Hmm

TheDowagerCuntess · 22/11/2015 17:33

I also find Ryan Gosling completely devoid of charisma and interest.

Crazypetlady · 22/11/2015 18:42

Kristen stewart in anything.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 22/11/2015 18:51

Daniel Radcliffe. (it's a bit bad when the worst thing about Harry Potter is, erm, Harry Potter) Ginny Weasley. Just. Fuck. Off.

Susan in Narnia. Just awful.

Clint Eastwood in Bridges of Madison County- put your pants back on yer boney old gimmer.

Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson in anything.

Bridget Jones.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 22/11/2015 18:53

Oh god, the combination of teeny tiny unborn baby potato Leonardo Di Caprio and all woman Kate Winslet borders on the obscene. Makes her look like some pervy babysnatcher.

Not a huge fan if Keira Knightly but I did like her in her recent role in Everest. Only a small part but I thought she did that very well.

I don't like Jack Nicolson in anything, he just looks like a creepy old man to me :/

Love Nick Cage though :D

hollyisalovelyname · 27/11/2015 16:44

Womanscorned- my sentiments re di Caprio exactly.
Far too baby faced. I thought he was dreadfully miscast in Titanic. He was a child compared with Kate Winslet.
Also Tom Hanks in Bonfire of the Vanities. Just not 'smooth' enough.

OnlyLovers · 28/11/2015 23:12

Orlando Bloom/Orloondo Bland is utterly utterly interest-free in everything. An example of actual negative charisma. What IS the opposite of charisma? There ought to be a word for it.

Daniel Craig isn't very convincing as Bond, IMO. Again, no charisma and that's one thing Bond needs to be.

Controversial, but I wasn't convinced by Chewitel Edjofor in Twelve Years a Slave.

Agree with Jude Law. The only role I like him in was Closer, because he was supposed to be an immature manchild in that so it suited him.

I will defend Anne Hathaway based on Les Mis and Devil Wears Prada. Any romcom shit she's in is awful.

Haha, yes to Leo and Kate in Titanic being odd. They either needed an actor a few years older, or a more delicate, baby faced lady. However, if you look past Kate's not so great American accent in Revolutionary Road then they've got great chemistry in that.

Tom Cruise is just cringe in everything. He's just such an old Hollywood weirdo now, yet he gets all these leading man action roles. Scientology must pay off.
