Inside Out Film - suitable for 5 and 8 year old dds?

Some people have said this could be a bit upsetting. We watched Bridge to Terabithia - the 8 year old was in floods of tears and the 5 year old took it in her stride. Thanks.

My 6 and 4 year old went. Apparently they both cried, but they did love it.

I cried but I loved it! My 9, 8 and 3 yo boys all enjoyed it, especially the cat bit ????

Thanks everyone.I think I tend to be overprotective wrt to what they watch - would never have let them watch Bridge to Terabithia if I had known what the story involved - but I think it was good for them so I think I'll give it a go.

I went with my 6 year old. I don't remember it being sad?! I must have missed a bit!

Tensmumym · 29/07/2015 10:48

Thanks cece.

The theme of the film is that although being happy is great being sad can also be valuable.

BeyondDespairandRepair · 29/07/2015 10:55

Bridge to Terabithia was ^awful* we thought it was going to be excellent fantasy adventure like Spiderwick chronicles and yet it was horrific. I was in flods of tears and so was DD we shouldnt have watched it. Sad

BeyondDespairandRepair · 29/07/2015 10:56

I am hoping this will cheer my dd up as she will be very sad at the weekend

Tensmumym · 29/07/2015 10:57

Thanks cece. I was wondering what was upsetting about it. My dds must have been exposed to this in some way at school as they keep on pointing at adverts for it and know the names of the characters although I'm pretty sure the film wasn't even released before they broke up from school.

BeyondDespairandRepair I liked Bridge to Terabithia in spite of the sad episode. I enjoyed watching a strong female character and the relationship between the two leads. I think it was useful for me to see that my dd who is 8 and very sensitive can get upset but can get over it as I tend to shield her too much at times.

It is sad but I felt it more so as a mother with a child (the emotion Joy looks at the girl in it as hers) who's baby is growing up fast , that's why I was crying! More like sobbing openly haha! It is very good Smile

" I think it was useful for me to see that my dd who is 8 and very sensitive can get upset but can get over it as I tend to shield her too much at times."

This is actually one of themes in the film at the end Grin

Thanks MummyPidge.

It's a bit sad, but not full-on emotional at all, I wouldn't even go as far as moving for most of it. My DD (9) was a little worried in one of the chase sequences, but not upset.

turningvioletviolet · 29/07/2015 11:34

I took my DDs (14 and 9) yesterday. They loved it but we're not particularly moved o don't think. I on the other hand, was almost a sobbing wreck at Bing Bong.
I also remember watching Bridge to Terabithia and turning to Dd1 and howling 'why didn't you tell me?'

And I don't even consider myself a particularly emotional person.

Tensmumym · 29/07/2015 12:19

Thanks very much WhoKnows and turningviolet.

I took my 4 and 7 yo's and they were fine. But they have the sensitivity of a breeze block.

Bridge to Terabithia was a book before it was a film. Why didn't you google it a bit before going? It's an excellent book by the way.

missybct · 29/07/2015 13:12

Inside Out was fine for my DSS 6 year old. He's pretty sensitive and smart and asked questions about Sadness afterwards, but was in no way upset or bothered by it. I thought it was quite educational really in a lot of ways and I used it as point of reference when DSS was sad the next day at having to go back to his Mums - when I explained that sometimes we are at first sad, but it makes us special and happy eventually, he trotted off into the car and said thank you Grin

(He hates leaving ours after our weekends together, but he's always fine when he gets to his Mum's - he just knew he had to tidy his room when he got home Grin)

BooChunky · 29/07/2015 13:19

I took my 2 and 4 year olds, they both loved it.

I thought it was amazing, but did fight tears a few times!

Tensmumym · 29/07/2015 13:26

Thanks missy and Boo*.

Gerbils - it was on Iplayer recently and the synopsis gave no hint to me of what was going to happen.

Hi all, we are going to move this over to Films in a mo.

PushingThru · 30/07/2015 18:13

There is definitely some heart string tugging with happy endings though. I saw it with my mum yesterday: we're 36 and 62 & we cried a bit Grin
