Incredibles, Wallace & Grommit and Charlie & Lola big hits here (DS 5.1).

Not a dvd, but his favourite thing on tv is a Discovery Programme called "How its made" which is brilliant: shows you how lots of different things are made in factories etc. Also loves "Megastructures" - shows how you build big dams, North Sea oil rigs, suspension bridges etc. Really well made, informative (DH has got a bit addicted to it - think its a boy thing). I record loads of these in advance so always have one around for the odd 30 mins.

TheHighwayCod · 14/11/2006 14:10

we dont watch dvds

foxinsocks · 14/11/2006 14:11

nuffink other than sports stuff

is he into football or cricket? you can get some great best goals/best games compilations nowadays

suzywong · 14/11/2006 14:12

Course you don't, Cod. Knitting hair shirts and scaling chimneys and sorting your laundry must be frightfully time consuming for your youngsters

Mine used to love watching steam trains and buses (potential anorak alert! Grew out of it though )

Twiglett · 14/11/2006 14:15

Twiglett · 14/11/2006 14:18

DS falling in love with Ben-10 on Cartoon Network but will also watch CBeebies

He will happily rewatch any Disney Movie .. particular recent request was Hercules but has also watched Ants I think .. he likes Star Wars Episode IV

have friends who's kids watch Lord of the Rings but personally I think that's OTT .. DS did see Pirates of the Carribbean at their house (I wouldn't have let him if I'd known) and loved it

pretentious moment .. have just bought him Midsummer Night's Dream on his request .. he watches Hamlet and The Tempest (kids' versions) .. more to do with The Globe outreach Drama programme he's on

JanH · 14/11/2006 14:19

(Sorry for misleading you, Jackie )

suzywong · 14/11/2006 14:19

Do they like dinosaurs? Have you seen Prehistoric Park - ITV programme about time-travelling and saving extinct species. You can get this on DVD now, DS loved it. Like a less scary and more informative version of Jurassic Park. Will also watch the various episodes of Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Beasts and Walking with Monsters over and over again. more in this vein - Journey of Life is a BBC programme on evolution which is comprehensible to youngsters (and me). DS is also watching Planet Earth but I am not sure if this is a strong enough interest to sustain repeat viewing. DS also loves Robin Hood although it flies slightly over his head, there must be a DVD out soon? Current Cbeebie faves are Numberjacks and Underground Ernie which I think are bleurgh but can do you a bootleg copy if you are keen. Also Charlie and Lola - although this is more for DD (and me!). All the usual movie favourites (have you tried Narnia yet?) DS also likes old movies with fighting and bloodshed e.g. Spartacus, Moby Dick, Robin Hood (again) but also softer stuff like Swallows and Amazons, Railway Children, Secret Garden.

suzywong · 14/11/2006 23:21

Hi Florence UK

nope, not overly fussed on dinosaurs, thank the Lord - weren't they voted the most painful thing to tread on in bare feet recently?

I like the classics idea too, dunno how 3yr old ds2 would go with Spartacus though. And how would I explain the bathing scene [hmm}?

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 15/11/2006 09:08

....first film they saw at the cinema was 'revenge of the sith' aged about 6 months....convinced the couple next to us that they were girl and boy twins named luke and leia....

ghosty · 15/11/2006 09:15

suzy ... what about the star wars movies? The 'olden days' ones, as DS nicely calls them (episodes 4, 5 and 6 I think, with Harrison Ford etc) - my DS is nearly 7 and has enjoyed them for a year now.
He likes Playhouse Disney (can you get that in Aus, I bloody hope so ...) not just Mickey and Ickle Einsteins (DD's words) but loads of nice preschool stuff that bigger boys enjoy but won't admit to - Stanley, Jo Jo's Circus, Bear in the Big Blue House etc etc (some a bit sickly but all with a good message of some sort or learning thingy)

WideWebWitch · 18/11/2006 19:56

Suzy, agree about Star Wars
The Incredibles
Shrek 1 and 2
The Polar Express
Spy Kids
Spiderman (v cool, esp recent movies)
Shaolin soccer
Nanny McPhee
Beyblade (but I won't watch it with them whereas I will the above)
