nowadays DH and I just can't be doing with long, complicated or grim movies or ones that are too clever for their own good and just end without resolving anything.

We like light, straight forward, feel good type movies on the whole with the odd action movie thrown in, mostly enjoy what are probably described as 'indie'. No romcoms though that would be a step too far.

Recently enjoyed
We are the Milllers
hundred foot journey
grand budapest hotel
Pride

Watched but, meh

This is where I leave you
the equalizer
gone girl
the judge

doesn't have to be the latest release just on netflix or itunes, any recommendations? thanks!

I don't have Netflix so wouldn't know what's available on there, but Bad Neighbors was funny, like hilarious, I thought. Saving Mr Banks was a good film.

(I'm trying to think of films I've watched recently that fit your description, but I seem to have just watched Disney or films from the 80s!)

We had Captain Phillips appear from Lovefilm and neither of us were that keen but it was terrific. Exciting, really well acted, etc. recommend it.

Sorry, no idea what's on netflix/itunes i'm afraid, seems likely these would be:

Away We Go
Juno (seems a bit marmite on MN but there you are)
The Lady Vanishes

I would say Topsy Turvy but probably a bit long.

Do you like documentaries at all?

I liked Good Hair very much and really want to see Aristocrats and Standing In The Shadows of Motown which i haven't got around to.

sassy Capt Phillips does not appeal to me at all based on the premise alone and I am not a Tom Hanks fan but if you were in the same boat ( ha ha) and enjoyed it I might just be persuaded thanks.

me away we go looks right up our alley, maybe a bit like moonrise kingdom which was fab, thanks

Sunshine on Leith was lovely
A Long Way Down - sounds depressing but was really funny too
20 Feet from Stardom - haven't seen yet but sounds good
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - enjoyed it more than I thought and it was better than I thought it would be - Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner are very easy on the eye

all on Netflix except Sunshine on Leith

sassytheFIRST · 20/02/2015 11:45

Give Capt P a go and let me know what you think! I'm not a Hanks fan either but he is terrific in this.

Carry on films
Ealing comedies - Passport to Pimlico is my favourite
St. Trinians - the Alistair Sim ones
Grease
Airplane
Love at First Bite
