I had to see this on my own as DH judged the subject matter too depressing. Very good indeed, and Julianne Moore is very bit as good as the critics claim. You do get a sense of someone staring into the abyss, and also how other lives go on around such a person.

The ending is handled beautifully. Pitch perfect.

Please no SPOILERS - not out yet in the UK! I know the premise of the film but would rather not know too much before seeing.

Quite right, Bagel. I had to restrain myself.Smile The releasing of films in Au before the UK is never entirely rational.

Unless it's by Peter Jackson.

I wondered where you were writing from, echt!

It's annoying that it won't be out in the UK until after the Oscars. I'm so looking forward to seeing it as it's been been getting rave reviews from everyone, including you Smile

Looking forward to this. The book was excellent. A really intelligent and believable treatment of dementia.

poisonedbypen · 21/02/2015 15:23

Loved the book might find the film harder as I think my DF may have dementia Hmm

I LOVED this book and had no idea it had been made into a film!

SkaterGrrrrl · 17/03/2015 16:04

Saw the film today. It is wonderful.

I read about the film last week and thought it was something I wanted to see. DH didn't want to go which I understand. But I will go with someone else. Didn't realise it was also a book.

Glad to find this thread. Have been discussing it, sort of, on another thread.

Can we talk spoilers please?

It was excellent. I'm glad I saw it in the cinema instead of just waiting to see it on DVD. Julianne Moore really deserved her Oscar. I thought Kristen Stewart was very good too.
I loved the way the used Lyle Lovett's version of If I Had a Boat during the film and then Karen Elson's version at the end. Sometimes I don't notice the soundtrack at all but the final scene and that song was just heart-breaking.

Another one who thought this was an excellent film; JM's performance definitely merited her Oscar win.

ParkingFred · 14/04/2015 20:02

Loved it. Watched it alone and loved it so much, I watched it again with dh.

Julianne Moore played her part to perfection, it was so subtle and sensitive.

I really didn't like Kristen Stewart in it though.

Was talking about this today, I thought it was a brilliant film, not as depressing as you might think, probably because it's not maukishly sentimental and it's an internal view of dementia. JM was brilliant (but I love her anyway for her other films) and was pleasantly surprised by KS.
