Ooh, I've stumbled across a treat! I listened to this R4 afternoon drama earlier Meet-Cute (v good). Just googled the phrase and found this article in the Guardian, clicked on the first clip, and IT'S THE WHOLE MOVIE by the look of it! Have never seen it before but it's excellent: The Woman In The Window, Edward G Robinson and Joan Bennett. And she wears some surprisingly racy outfits Grin

Even better, at the end of the movie the link appears to lead to some kind of wormhole into LOADS of noir movies Shock

I may never go to bed...

Heard that R4 play as well - was good, wasn't it?

Spent many happy hours of childhood watching Barbara Stanwyck, Margaret Lockwood in old movies, when there weren't 101 channels on the TV! Don't know this one so may give it a look. Thanks!

Thanks BOF Smile

It sounds familiar to me. I am a BIG fan of classic Hollywood films and have discovered that Apple tv has quite a lot surprisingly. I've got a special box with my DVDs of old films so I can lay my hands on them easily. Want to get Old Acquaintace next. It pisses me off that there is no film channel for classic films now TCM (stood for The Classic Movie originally) seems to be mostly for westerns.

You might want to look here Its a mixed bag, but some decent stuff.

Wow, thanks for that link!

They've got Going My Way (which is distinctly mediocre by modern tastes, but was popular at the time), which my grandad's cousin, Barry Fitzgerald, won an Oscar for. He was actually nominated for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, and they had to change the rules after that so it didn't happen again.

His real surname was Shields, which is the family name on my mum's side.

Great link, thanks!

Does anyone remember The Bitter Tea of General Yen - a lovely b/w film with Barbara Stanwyck. Very old but beautiful. By Frank Capra but very different from his more well-known films.

BOFster · 23/01/2015 02:59

I don't, but I'll look it up Flowers.

I do remember it as a title, less the content of the film as I often say it! Was Marlon Brando in it? As well as (saying) bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (or substitute name of annoying person). I'm also a bit obsessed with seeing Donovan's Brain, haven't seen it for 40+ years! Recently bought The Lost Weekend (billy wilder)

Chipsandsalad · 23/01/2015 16:26

Oh what a treat. Thanks for this BOF.

Excellent link Bof. Very impressed by Iscar winning relative from the hay day of Hollywood. I recognised the name so looked him up and do remember him although not from any of my absolute favourite films, still excellent.
