I saw this movie at the cinema yesterday - it was excellent.

Benedict Cumberbatch gives an amazing performance, as does Keira Knightley.

It's a great story movingly, and entertainingly, told.

Has one else seen it yet?

I have just finished watching this and loved it. I have also seen the theory of everything and can imagine it was a hard decision between Cumberbach and Redmayne.

I held my I Pad up to the tv (watching the dvd) and said "that machine is your grandad". Yes I do love my I Pad and I loved this film. Benedict Cumerbatch deserved an Oscar but of course there was Eddie Redmayne....just unfortunate timing for Benerdict.

Had a late night movie session with teen DD1, watched on telly through the virgin media thingy. We loved this film, DD1 declared it the best she has ever seen yep, hear that quite a lot. Such bad timing the Theory of Everything and this film came out in the same year, both deserved Oscars. I actually think the Imitation Game was better.

I've just seen it on DVD, having missed it at the cinema, opting for the Theory of Everything instead (not enough babysitters for both!), and actually much preferred the Imitation Game. Agree bad timing for them to come out together. And interesting to compare - the thing I found frustrating about the Theory of Everything is that there was so little about Hawkings' work and what made his insight special - it was the story of his illness and relationships, which is only one aspect of him. So I thought the Imitation Game did a better job of conveying something of the work and Turing's mind (although obviously simplified for the constraints of cinema).

I had been put off by reading about the spy story being a fabrication, and the implication that Turing would have covered up a spy to avoid being outed, which seemed a slur on his character. But it's actually more subtle than that in the film, isn't it - MI6 know about the spy, which makes it very different. I liked the parallel with the Rory Kinnear story - and his tragedy of inadvertently uncovering the so-called 'gross indecency' when he thought he was high-mindedly tracking a spy. Very moving, in many different ways.
