Best movie for 7-11 year olds

DD is planning to watch a movie at home with her friends as part of her birthday celebrations.

What can you recommend that boys and girls aged 7 to 11 would enjoy? Looking for movies that we've not seen yet.

Must be available on DVD.

Thanks!

The Never Ending Story?

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/05/2014 18:33

Despicable me 1 or 2 always popular in our house

Glenshee · 07/05/2014 19:59

Despicable Me is really good. It's just we already watched it several times.

Thanks for the Never Ending Story suggestion. Isn't 1984 a bit prehistoric though by an 11 y old standards? Wink

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 07/05/2014 20:02

Pleasantville

I don't think you can tell its from 1984 - I watched it with my 6 year old boy and 8 (nearly 9) year old girl a couple of weeks ago and they loved it and keep mentioning it. They've seen lots of new films, we go to the cinema regularly - that's what I was thinking - if you show things that are very recent at least one or two guests are guaranteed to have seen it already. My 8 year old likes Parent Trap as somebody else suggested, but my DS says its boring... not sure if that is gender or just oersonal taste though.

Parent Trap looks funny!

Pleasantville is rated PG-13 ?

Yes there is a danger that Parent Trap will not appeal as much to boys.

Oh sorry, Boys and Girls......

erm.....

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 07/05/2014 20:18

The Hunger Games

Glenshee · 07/05/2014 20:19

Looked up more movies, and Hotel for Dogs seems OK.
Babe looks like something that my daughter would enjoy, but not sure about the older boys.

Jumanji is brilliant, and good for both boys and girls.

Glenshee · 07/05/2014 20:25

The Hunger Games also PG-13 so I won't be comfortable watching it with a group of children without consulting all parents first (and that's too much hassle). Looks good though.

Mousetrap
The Borrowers

HandbagAddiction · 07/05/2014 20:29

We love Hotel for Dogs in this house. It's brilliant!! What about HUGO, Daddy Daycare or Evan Almighty?

HandbagAddiction · 07/05/2014 20:30

Or Night at the Museum 1 / II.
'Bedtime Stories' also very funny.

We bought a Zoo
Zookeeper

Ooh I could go on......

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 07/05/2014 20:33

The Incredibles

DebbieOfMaddox · 07/05/2014 20:33

Labyrinth?

Glenshee · 07/05/2014 21:48

HandbagAddiction - wow - awesome suggestions - thank you!
Bedtime Stories, We bought a Zoo, Zookeeper all seem so funny and cool I'll be struggling to choose! Definitely all worth watching at some point.
We tried Hugo but the DD didn't like it / refused to watch, I think it appeals to boys more.

Thanks for Jumanji suggestion, my DD watched the trailer and was glued to it! It's her favourite so far.
