Quick question, would you take a nearly 3yo to see Cars?

I know there's a thread on it but it's a PG, would my fairly unscaredy 2.9yo be scared do you think? She is ok with Walking with Beasts but scared at the wolves in Narnia. Any scary bits in Cars? TIA!

\link{http://imdb.com/title/tt0317219/someone has watched the film and done a review}

havent watched it myself so i dont know sorry
but as its disney.. (it is isnt it) i dont think it would be that scary

thenel · 08/08/2006 11:50

someone has watched the film and done a review

clumsymum · 08/08/2006 11:53

It is disney, but there were some scary bits in 'Finding Nemo' as I recall.

I would guess Cars has some fairly noisy bits, so if she's sensitive I'd avoid it.

DS (nearly 7) has a promise that we're going next weekend. Can report back after that if you like.

Bozza · 08/08/2006 11:53

No I think she will be fine with it. Nowhere near as scary as the wolves in Narnia at any point. I took DS and he loved it but DD (was 2 in May) does not do TV and also decided to be scared of Madagascar. Can you find out why it is PG? Sometimes it is not PG because of being scary to a 2yo but because of slightly risque language which I can't imagine would put you off.

wilbur · 08/08/2006 11:54

My sister took her 6 yr old dd and said it was a bit above her head and she wasn't really interested. It's a PG for some reason (don't know why), so aimed at older kids.

serenity · 08/08/2006 11:55

I'm thinking about it too. DD recently went to the cinema for the first time to see Over The Hedge, and behaved really well - started wandering near the end, but wasn't scared of the bear. DSs want to see Cars and I'm debating whether to take her too. The thing that puts me off is the running time - it's 2 hours long and I'm not sure whether she'll run out of patience (she's 2.9 as well)

CountessDracula · 08/08/2006 11:57

we went at the weekend and walked out half way through. Most of the younger kids were just fidgeting and talking all the way through. DD always adores going but she just didn't like the film and nor did we. It isn't scarey (well not til half way through.

ALL the girls were bored btw!

Bozza · 08/08/2006 11:58

Ah yes DD was scared of the shark in Nemo. She is a wuss though. Scared of the vacuum cleaner, mixer, next door's cat etc etc.

Just looked on the BBFC website and it says "contains intense action and mild language".

thenel · 08/08/2006 11:58

true clumsymum if they are v young i would wait till it comes out on dvd, buy it, watch it myself then if its o.k let dc watch it

cupcakes · 08/08/2006 12:00

dh took ds and he said it was fine- nothing like Nemo.

MrsSpoon · 08/08/2006 12:02

I spotted one swear word in Cars, think it was b*gger, so not awful but still wondered why they had to in a children's film. The combine harvester could be a bit scary for young children. Agree about the boredom factor, my DSs (4 and 7) loved it but DH, who had been really looking forward to seeing the film, fell asleep during it and someone in the same row as us with a small child, I think about 18 months (IMO too young for the cinema whatever film is showing), spent most of her time going in and out the row as her child was whinging and crying. I thought it was good but not as good as I had been expecting, quite a lot of slow bits.

clumsymum · 08/08/2006 12:05

Interesting that you took her to Narnia. I decided that might be too scary for ds so we haven't seen it yet. Was I over-protective, I just thought there may be alot to feed nightmares on in Narnia.

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2006 14:00

Thanks everyone but well, I should have just taken £25 and set fire to it. (£16 tickets, £10 on pick n mix )

FORTY minutes of adverts, so dd was bored out of her mind by the time the film started and then she wanted to walk up and down so I took her out, brought her back in and in the end told ds we all had to go. The film had only been on 10 minutes. I don't know what I was thinking of trying to take them both, dd and I couldn't possibly have waited outside for 2 hours. She wanted to go back in, I didn't (as she wouldn't sit down or be quiet), so I dragged her and then ended up stickibng her under my arm back to the car, kicking and screaming all the way. She screamed for the whole 30 mins home. Nice.

(she's seen Narnia on dvd, not cinema btw and bozza, you're right, the language doesn't bother me really!)

Ha ha ha www, you are so funny, appreciate the humour and think after this thread will save my £25 and wait for the DVD. My 2yr old will scream the place down and I could buy 3 new dvd's for that price and watch them with home made popcorn and lots of cuddles instead. Tx

clumsymum · 08/08/2006 14:28

Oh www, what a shame, I bet ds is disappointed.

MrsSpoon · 08/08/2006 15:28

I forgot all about the ads and trailers, they were unbelieveably long. Sorry it didn't go well WWW.

clumsymum · 08/08/2006 15:30

Sorry, got interupted by WORK.

Will you get chance to take ds again (if you win the lottery?

I have to say that I don't think I tried to take ds to the cinema until he was at least 4 1/2.

Can't imagine how he would have coped at 2 !!

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2006 15:33

It's ok he said 'oh well, it didn't look that good anyway' and his dad will take him maybe this weekend.

Bozza · 08/08/2006 16:31

Dior - DS thought that was hilarious too - he actually got the joke which doesn't happen all that often.

kimi · 08/08/2006 17:40

Hi wickedwaterwitch (great name by the way)
My sister took my two boys age 10 and 6 to see it last week and i have just ask her if it would be ok for smaller children and she said yes, there were many smaller children ther and it works well on many levels. hope you enjoy.

oxocube · 12/08/2006 06:18

I know its too late but Over The Hedge is much better imo. LOL at dd - spookily familiar (and not so long ago)

threebob · 12/08/2006 07:10

DVD will be out by Christmas - so I wouldn't bother.
