Mine saw the first one when it came out on DVD. My DSs are fairly unshockable but they would have got scared in the cinema - too big, too loud, nowhere to escape to. Consequently I shall be going to see P of the C II very late at night with my BF and my DSis as a girls night out Grin. DCs can wait for the DVD again (they are only 8 and 6 though) The trailer does look very full on, I'd be very wary with under 12s tbh.

RTKangaMummy · 20/06/2006 17:35

DS is 11 years and wants to go to cinema with 2 of his friends but there hasn't been anything at cinema for them to see that is appropiate for them to see

I was wondering about letting them go to this

We would be sitting in the row behind them so they are independant but not iyswim

what does 12A mean? Ds1 loves P of C 1, he is 6 dont suppose he could go could he? ( with me of course) - any excuse for me to fawn over Johnny Depp and Jack Davenport.

tiredemma · 20/06/2006 17:36

you wont be on the back row snogging i hope RT?!

RTKangaMummy · 20/06/2006 17:37

Thanks for the reply Smile

RTKangaMummy · 20/06/2006 17:38

12A = not under 12 without adult

Harry Potter didnt really scare DS1, I think that its probably as scary as HP, but not scarier.

Has he seen P of C1? there are a few hairy moments, but i think at 11, he would be able to handle them.

I love P o C, its my favourits film, so funny.

tiredemma · 20/06/2006 17:40

fab, that means i can take ds1!

RTKangaMummy · 20/06/2006 17:41

11? That's so near to 12 as to make no difference. Echo the 'go, go, go' sentiment.

Have a nice time Smile

I went to see it last night and my gosh are parts of it nauseating?! Davy Jones's crew made my skin crawl.

It's certainly not scary, but it is mildly unsettling in places, not least because of all the rotten teeth and the fact that Keira "blow me down with a feather" Knightley seems to become progressively more orange throughout. And they've tried to give her heaving norks at the beginning, all very well until she turns sideways.

suzywong · 07/07/2006 15:28

She was awful you're right, and she snogged my boyfriend

ShowOfHands · 07/07/2006 16:04

Suzy, does Johnny wear full pirate get up in bed then?

Think we've found the pirate sex thread culprit...

Very excited - going to see it tomoorw night (girls' night out, so as not to annoy dh too much with my Depp-letching )
My 2 boys 8.5 and 5.5 both saw POC1 on dvd and adore it (though I didn't want the younger one to see it, but ds1 put it on for him one morning when I wasn't really supervising

I think what another poster said about seeing something like this at cinema is very true - it's far more full-on and in-your-face. Not sure younger ones would cope.
Am a bit surprised one mum at our school is taking a load of the 5-year-olds as a birthday outing...but each to their own. My younger one was invited but thankfully we are away so don't have to wrestle with my conscience ie. party-pooper versus personal feelings, IFYKWIM.

I spent the whole time watching it, wondering if DH would agree to a pirate outfit, and then thinking about the pirate sex thread

No such good sword fighting this time. Definately no scarier than HP.

satine · 11/07/2006 20:33

at mum taking a group of 5 year olds. Fair enough if you make the decision to take your own kids but a group? I read a review in the weekend papers that said it was far scarier for kids than the first. But as I've said before, I am frequently aghast at the films people take children to see (working sometimes in an independant cinema).

fullmoonfiend · 12/07/2006 17:41

been to see it now with my friends - wouldn't recommend it personally for young children - my 8.5 yr old would cope with it I reckon, especially if he was with his peers - male bravado would carry him through. Having said that, I'd rather wait til it's out on dvd when it's less in-yer-face schlock horror. (unless you have a huuge tv screen
