have bought it for myself really as i am in love with Mr Depp and now have also developed an unhealthy obsession with Jack Davenport.

can i let my six yr old watch it as i told dp it was a easter gift for said child. ( really, i was too embarrased to admit i had bought it for my own lustful viewing)

is it too haevy for a six yr old? bearing in mind i will be sat watching it with him??

My ds is 6 and he loves Harry Potter, Lord of the rings and Star wars and Spiderman......that kind of thing but we watched Pirates of the Carribean and decided it would be to scary.

Polgara2 · 20/04/2006 19:09

Depends on the individual child I suppose but I wouldn't let my 8 yr old watch it never mind my nearly 6 yr old. It is too scary imo, and it does after all have a 12 certificate for a reason.

juliab · 20/04/2006 19:17

There is quite a scary bit with zombies/skeletons in it. My 7-year-old wouldn't be able to handle that but then maybe he's a scaredy cat. (I had a thread about this not so long ago - search under my name and watching a 12-cert film.)

tiredemma · 20/04/2006 19:26

ill watch it alone first and see if i think its too heavy.

I haven't let my 9 year old watch it (though dh thinks we should...) Watch it first and see what you think.

Polgara2 · 20/04/2006 19:33

Yes, thats a very good idea, hadn't realised you hadn't watched it yet. Like I say I guess you know your own children best but I personally think it's too old for a 6 yr old, not just the scary bits but the dialogue/story too.

Ds, nearly seven, is frantic to see this. REALLY annoying of Disney to sex'n'violence up a film about comic pirates of all appealing topics to little boys.
I think he'd be fine - he is clever and takes Dr Who in his stride. But I feel that if it is a 12 we have to stand our ground, as I did with Spiderman etc.
Watch it yourself tiredemma, with the pause button to hand and some Ben and Jerry's. You know you want to :)

marthamoo · 20/04/2006 19:44

It is annoyog, isn't it Marina - 'cos it's such a good film and I know he'd love it (and be fine with it probably - but I have to stick to my damn principles).

cod · 20/04/2006 19:45

i ofudn it a tedious film

marthamoo · 20/04/2006 19:45

annoyog? I am Not Vey Well - brain is mush.

marthamoo · 20/04/2006 19:45

Or even very.

I don't think it's tedious at all, cod. You are a strange fish.

tiredemma · 20/04/2006 19:46

marina, you must be able to read my mind!!

i love j. depp anyway, but after watching Mary Bryant the other night, i have become seriously infatuated with Jack Davenport, need to see him again in full uniformed regalia.... think the pause button will be worn down!

OP posts:
marthamoo · 20/04/2006 19:48

I can't fancy Jack Davenport as he looks too much like my brother.

tiredemma · 20/04/2006 19:48

cod- what do you mean 'tedious' , describe...

OP posts:
desperateSCOUSEwife · 20/04/2006 19:49

must admit with cod on this one
thought it was boring
depp was gorgeous thoguh

Witchycat · 20/04/2006 19:51

Tiredmamma - have to admit to having seen Pirates 6 times now (unashamedly lustful reasons - Johnny Depp not Jack Davenport. Still think of him as Miles from This Life & therefore an arse!).

IMO, viewing for small child would depend on the child. I think the skeletal pirates are pretty yucky to look at (teeth, eyeballs, straggly hair etc..) so unless you get the jokes and laugh at them they would be scary.
There's also lots of scenes of the pirates chasing & threatening to kill various 'goodies'.
My boy would take it way too seriously and get freaked out, but then he's got a very serious nature and is not quite 5.

cod · 20/04/2006 19:52

DD1 was 5.5 when it came out and she loved it then and loves it now. Just waiting for 2 and 3 to be released.
