What I mean is I think I'd enjoy watching, I'm not an aspiring actor.

I know absolutely nothing, where shall I start?

I'm not an expert by any means - but have enjoyed 'Dhobi Ghaat', which was produced by Amir Khan (he seems to do good stuff, not all singing and dancing, decent story in there) - there's an old one of his 'Lagaan' about Indian villagers learning to play cricket to 'beat the British at their own game' :)
What kinda stories do you like - I have a friend who's really into them, I can check with her.

I've no idea really, but the cricket one sounds good, I think I'll try that.

I can't even explain why it appeals really, but every time I see snippets I think "oooh, I could really get into that".

Thanks CBD, in searching for those two I've come across an Ebay shop called Bollywood Zone. I'm a teensy bit excited.

Alright, here's what I have from my expert of a friend ----

Omkara, Kahani, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Rock On, ...they're all slightly different from the TYPICAL Bollywood film, and just palatable enough for you to enjoy.

If you're looking for the kind of Bollywood that is 'typical', I'd say Devdas & Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

If you want the kind of Bollywood that gets international acclaim, but is actually just a middling version of western films, then maybe Lagaan and Dhobi Ghaat.

( Blush There go my two suggestions! I really did enjoy them though.)

I'm guessing you're not looking to study Bollywood...otherwise there's various old films I'd recommend, as well as the 'alternative' cinema (Arth, Mandi, Sparsh, etc).

Hope that helps! Enjoy your movie watching!

Thankyou so much, that's really helpful.

At the moment I just fancy dipping in, so to speak, although I imagine it could well turn into study, of a sort.

I've no idea where my interest stems from, and that's kind of exciting in itself.

I've only seen Bride and Prejudice and enjoyed it (can you guess what it is based on?).
