Appropriate films for a 3-year old???

Please can anyone recommend some non- scary films (that I can buy for my iPad) for my just 3 year old dd to watch during a very long car journey? She loved Disney princesses but all Disney films are terrifying. I really don't want to expose her to anything that might give her nightmares, so we are talking totally in-scary, no death, no baddies, no vaguely upsetting storylines etc... For eg what about toy story or shrek? Haven't seen either for years but can't remember whether they have baddies in. Anyone know of any other suggestions? Many thanks in advance! :)

I second Rooble's suggestion of episodes of favorite programmes. Especially if she isn't used to watching films.

Mine can't watch screens due to travel sickness (and not having screens), but love audio books. Winnie the Witch and Little Bear stories went down well at that age, (they now LOVE Roald Dahl, but are 5+). Interspersed with nursery rhymes, 'fun songs' and Rhythm Time even if they sent DH slowly mad

Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs was a successful first cinema trip, aged 4 (8yo cried, but those subtleties passed 4yo by). Yes to Gruffalo. Princess and Frog is very scary.

Ooh what about bagpuss Grin

Our dd 2.9 likes ice age movies and toy story 1 & 2. Also happy feet and kipper the dog on DVD. Also peppa pig & Charlie & Lola. Am thinking of buying Dora the explorer for a change!

DS 2.9 loves Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the Wererabbit, but it meets none of your criteria! He's not scared of it at all though, he just likes the rabbits.

(lest I be judged, I bought it before he was born for myself, and he put it in one day and loved it!)

Noddy Grin

Not Flushed Away - DD1 is 3.5 and was scared of the bit at the start when he is pushed down the toilet and 'flushed away' - we didn't get any further and she still talks about it.

Ratatouille is good - think there is a bit where someone has died but I just glossed over it and the rest was fine.

Panda Go Panda Brilliant for a 3 year old!

The Madadgascar films are are good, no scary bits.
Wallace and Gromit, you can get all the shorter ones on dvd for a fiver at the moment.

Wow! So many replies! Thank you all so much - some fab suggestions Smile

I will be returning to this thread again and again for film ideas. Great idea about the shorts too. I hadn't realised you could buy those on iTunes.

Thanks again xx

Wall-e is brilliant - very sweet and keeps my two boys entertained.

Pings. Wonder pets. Etc

noblegiraffe · 30/05/2012 21:13

Lost and Found is a lovely short film about a boy and his penguin based on the book by Oliver Jeffers.

ipanicked · 30/05/2012 22:45

My just turned 3 year old is even scared of Ponyo, Totoro and Peppa pig Grin

Pingu is my current favourite for being not at all scary, as is the Snowman and Cars.
