Thought this was a very good film, but that it should not have been a PG rating. It was very scary in places and extremely loud with some revolting aliens. DS3 (7) was pretty distressed fairly early on and it didn't improve much as the film went on. Obviously all children are different, but I wouldn't recommend it for under 10s.

Other adults as we were coming out were commenting on how full-on it was and that some of the children in there should not have been there.

Thing is I've always thought that PG related to a parent's view of how their children will cope with a film, not that parents should view every PG film in advance. DS3 has seen plenty of other PG films without any problem but he was very unhappy in this one.

Roisin, have you (or ds) seen it yet? What was the verdict?

We're on half term next week - we've just broken up today. Dh is away at the moment just for a couple of days. So I expect they'll go sometime next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

i thought it was fab as its abit like jumanji movie

We're still going on Sunday, I'll post a 'review' as well.

Going to see it later - ds's and I thought the trailer looked ace. Forewarned now! Loud noise does not seem to affect either of my sons, but ds2 does get scared sometimes.

It can be difficult to find a film that will appeal to both sons, as there is a 5 1/2 year age gap. ds2 often ends up seeing films aimed for slightly older children.

We went to see Oliver Twist yesterday (on the cheap Sat am showing!) and ds1 (8) was actually quite upset by it ... I think the poverty/young children/unrelenting misery was somehow more 'real' for him than SciFi/Fantasy which are just exciting and thrilling. Does anyone else find this?

Serenity - did you go? Verdict?

bump

We went today and all three of us loved it! my youngest is 9 and was fine, he said that it was "not that scary".

There were a few jumpy bits and it was incerdibly loud.

I didn't expect to enjoy it as I love Jumanji and thought it would be too samey, but I really enjoyed it and even shed a tear (but I am well known for crying at anything!)

serenity · 23/02/2006 16:29

sorry,

yes we did go on Sunday and they all enjoyed it. DS did get a bit scared of the Zorgons, but not so much that he wouldn't watch it. He just swapped seats so he could sit next to me. Out of the others that went we had 4 boys aged 4, 8, 8 and 12 all who loved it and didn't bat an eye and a 7 yr old girl who got very scared, but stayed in sitting on her Mum.

Adultwise there was me, my Dsis and BF (owner of the 4, 12 and 7 yr olds!). We all enjoyed it, a couple of bits did make us jump though. It was definitely more full on than Jumanji, but I wouldn't worry about DS2 (5) watching it at home (I'm glad he decided not to go on Sunday!)

Dh took ds1 (8) to see it today - he loved it. (Dh was very bored though!) But they both agreed that ds2 (6.5) would have found it too scary.

We'll try him with the DVD when it comes out. (Our TV is fairly small and we have a big sofa to hide behind!)
