Anyone seen it?
What did you make of the last scene, outside the school?

Is this the Daniel Autueil/Juliette Binoche film? It's had great reviews so I'm really keen to see it.....

bundy · 02/02/2006 17:45

dh saw it yesterday, I think he was confused

Marina · 02/02/2006 17:58

But had he been out somewhere else first bundy?

bundy · 02/02/2006 17:59

not that time (he'd painted the rest of the undercoat in the bathroom, dutifully, before he went to the movies)

bundy · 02/02/2006 18:00

btw, marina, have had negative comments about my new name, being a bit sinister...wotchathink?

bakedpotato · 02/02/2006 18:22

Oh bundy, am warming to your sinister glamour
Hidden, yes, it's that French film
Badly need to compare notes on final scene
Anyone, anyone at all?

One of those movies you shouldn't go to on your own

Is that Michael Haneke's latest - it sounds too murky for me alas. The man has a NASTY mind! Did you see Funny Games bp?
bundy, I think you are in dubious taste on a parenting website. Maybe I will start you a parp-riddled thread of disapproval...

Marina · 02/02/2006 18:27

My top not on your own film bp is the original version of The Vanishing
Although I found Battle Royale pretty horrific too, am a wuss for spooky stuff.

bundle · 02/02/2006 18:29

I'm back

Will ask dh about this film, but I doubt I'll get any sense out of him....

bakedpotato · 02/02/2006 19:19

It wasn't scary Marina, just unsettling. I thought it was terrific. Masses of ideas. Plus brilliant depiction of a couple in meltdown.
I meant you need company when viewing so you can compare thoughts afterwards...
If I'd gone with someone, I wouldn't have to start rubbish/desperate threads like this one

I try and approach any new film with an open mind but I make an exception for the works of Michael Haneke.

Benny's Video, Funny Games, The Piano Teacher.

He's had his three strikes. He's out.

I've just got back from watching this (I'm always behind the times with films) and I loved it, but the ending did make me go "eh????"

Extremely suspenseful and thought provoking I thought. Couple of scenes that are not for those of a nervous disposition ... Grin

yay thanks bp Smile

Toots · 09/03/2006 16:49

BP My feeling is.... that this was Majid's son's first contact with Pierrot. He was unhappy with George's lack of contrition and making contact with the boy showed his intention to take the retribution that horrible bit further.

Jolly romp wasn't it? Grin

spacedonkey · 09/03/2006 16:51

the Observer article is rather reassuring - at least I know I wasn't just being a dunce, or had missed something

What struck me about the final scene was the way that you aren't sure if you are watching Majid's son and Pierrot as the viewer, or you're watching them as the watcher (in which case, who is the watcher after all?).

Obviously it's a film that deliberately leaves you wondering and there are no definite answers ...
