Scary war scenes, with very frightening faced warriors. An awful lot of subtle killing. Poor Edmund in chains & being hit in the face by the queen.

Mmmm, I wouldn't take little ones. My nearly 11yr old DS said it was a bit scary.

We went today (dss 6 and 8) and we all loved it immensely. FANTASTIC adaptation of the book, I was very impressed.

After reading this thread this morning I warned ds2 (who is a sensitive little flower) that some parts would be scary and some very sad. But he said he'd be OK, as he'd read the book a couple of times, and knew the ending was a happy one.

I wouldn't recommend it for tinies, but definitely for junior-age children and above; especially if you've read the books.

TheFish · 10/12/2005 16:47

yep ds1 was 7 just right
bbUT better for those who ahve read hte book
the beavers were great

TheFish · 10/12/2005 16:48

agree you really need to have read the book for those under 8 as it is really complicated - if you havent then the film wont really have hte same level of meaning

Enideepmidwinter · 10/12/2005 16:53

a friend of mine took her 5 year old dd who loved it!

I have insisted we read the book first [curmudgeonly emoticon]

TheFish · 10/12/2005 16:55

woudl think totally lost on a 5 year old

Enideepmidwinter · 10/12/2005 16:56

yes a waste will wait a couple of years and do book in the meantime

TheFish · 10/12/2005 16:57

book also too hard for 5 year old
deffo
help to esplain biblical allegory imo
wait

Enideepmidwinter · 10/12/2005 16:58

yes I skimmed it last week - it was recommended as a book to read to a nearly 6 year old. Decided too deep for her and would wait a while

motherinfurrierfestivehat · 10/12/2005 17:08

OH soddit, I'll take dd1, sensitive soul she may be but she'll probably cope. And if she doesn't we'll exit pronto for ice cream.

TheFish · 10/12/2005 17:11

it sis scarey

janeite · 10/12/2005 19:27

My v sensitive 8 yr old was fine today - if she can cope, I think most 7 and overs would!

HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 10/12/2005 19:28

Ds and I both enjoyed it. It was really good. I agree that some of it was unsuitable for younger children. Ds is 6 and I would say this is the youngest I would take to it. There were people in there with babies and toddlers??!! Really wasn't suitable.
I avoided the sacrifice bit, took ds for a wee. He didn't complain as he's seen the original and knew what was coming.

Agree you would have to have read the book to be able to follow this, imo.

I loved the Beavers too

TheFish · 10/12/2005 19:29

thier cute little beaver armour( where was mrs b during the battle?)

Tamba · 10/12/2005 19:29

Did anyone read the book that comes before the lion the witch and the wardrobe? (the magicions nephew) cause then you know how come the wardrobe is there and why it is magic etc and how th witch happens to be there in the first place

suedonim · 10/12/2005 19:36

We're just back from Narnia (the film, not the place!) and everyone enjoyed it. 9yo dd says she wasn't scared though she jumped out of her skin at one point. Mind you, she gets spooked by books rather than films. Imo, it's not any scarier than Dr Who, and a darn sight less scarey than those wretched sp*ders in HP!

HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 10/12/2005 19:38

Mrs B was probably making toast and jam

JayzMummysATurkeyStuffer · 10/12/2005 19:46

Just got back from seeing Narnia....WOW!
It was fantastic....deffo got a 9.5/10 from Ds1, age 11 and DH gave it an 8...I did catch him nodding off a couple of times

It was our second ever trip to the cinema with J (Autistic) in tow.
The last time we went we took him to see Toy Story 2...spent the whole cinema time with him screaming "back back" he couldnt understand that we couldnt rewind the film.
I was worried after reading here that it was scary...Ive read the book to him so he knows the plot....but visual is so different for him.
He sat frozen throughout the whole film...didnt move a muscle...loved every second of it and the only blip was when Aslan got sacrficed and he shouted out very loudly..."Oh No" then farted even louder!!!
A great family afternoon had by all.
Wouldnt recommend it for any child under 8-9, due to some scenes being quite scary.

TheFish · 10/12/2005 19:55

sad they omitted the " resurrection" scene when aslan dna the girls play chase

nikkie · 10/12/2005 20:31

I took my 4 &5 yos 5 yo knew story and was explaining to girl next to her that Aslan was like Jesus! 4 yo not scared but didn't 'get' bits enjoyed all the different creature though.
I thought scarier than HP4 and prob should have been 12a!
Beavers were brill!!!!

That's sad Fish...that is a lovely scene.
Interesting to hear views on the film, was surprised that J Ross was so anti it, he is normally reliable on children's cinema.
Ds and I are seeing it next week as an end of term treat. We have read all the Narnia books with him except The Last Battle and he is really looking forward to it.
Dh was brought up in a household where CS Lewis was sneered at for the Christian allegories in his children's books - I wasn't.

TheFish · 11/12/2005 07:42

yes dh is sneering of it too

i think ill have that chase bit at my funeral ( of of course i die and am not belssed wiht eternal life)

KBearthePolarBear · 11/12/2005 07:45

The solution has presented itself to me - Lassie's new movie. Surely nothing scarey there, except grown men and women understanding what a dog is saying.

"What's that you say Lassie?"
"Woof"
"Two children trapped down a mine shaft?"
"Woof"
"Take me to them"

TheFish · 11/12/2005 08:24

the trailer for the chicken little thing looked ( ahem) good
