Hi all. I have just seen The Notebook and thought it was amazing. I really loved it and have watched it twice in one day.

I was wondering two things. Firstly is the book worth reading now I have seen the film or would I be disappointed?
Secondly I am now keen to see if there are other films that I would enjoy similar to The Notebook?

It wasnt a film I was keen to see when it was released so I am so glad I have now seen it, but what other films am I missing out on?

I didnt really like the time travellers wife imo, you might like dear john though?

india245 · 30/08/2010 08:21

I saw Dear John the other night; it was ok, but not as good as the Notebook in my opinion. The same with Message in a bottle - good, but not as good as the notebook

have you seen Bridges of Maddison county? that's a good one.

A walk to remember is nice too.

And there's another one with Richard Gere in it - he learns to dance and it has a fantastic track by Peter Gabrielle in it; with lyrics something about wedding rings - that's probably not much help is it Grin

The last song is another of Nicolas Sparks movies - not seen that one.
I hated time travellers wife - it left me cold.

If you like something that stretches the imagination a little, I love The Lake House.

Enjoy!

Thanks xkaylax and india. I saw Dear John at the cinema and enjoyed it. Havent seen Message in a Bottle so could be one to try. Also havent seen Bridges over Madison County but an sure its been on telly before and I dismissed it so will look out for that one too.

I dont recognise the Richard Gere one but will google it in a sec as I do like looking at Richard Gere!!

Yeh, I'm not sure about The Time Travellers wife, I have heard some very different views on it but mainly negative ones.

Love the Lake House, such a sweet film and another adorable male lead to swoon over Wink.

Thanks girls, just like watching films that make me feel all warm and fuzzy Smile. Sadly my DH doesnt so I have to put up with his moaning whilst watching!

Message in a Bottle and A Walk to Remember are also based on Nicholas Sparks' novels.

The Horse Whisperer? That's very moving.

Last night I saw "the blind side" and thought of you - i think you might like it ;)

Washerwomen · 01/09/2010 22:28

Ah thanks India, I saw it for hire in the library a couple days ago. Its got Sandra B in it hasnt it? Was it good? I am in there again on Saturday so will hire it out if its a good one. Thank you Smile

I watched A Walk to Remember SleepingLion and enjoyed it although it wasnt as good as The Notebook. To be honest, I think there arent going to be many films that can compare now for me! I havent seen Message in a Bottle so will see if I can hire that one too.

With kids back to school I will have abit more time to scout round!

I love a good cry at a movie...The notebook (the actual book) made my cry for hours it was so good.

My best ever movie to make me cry is Madam X, either the Black and white or colour remake (1966). Not exactly like the notebook, but very emotional Blush

ShowOfHands · 09/09/2010 17:37

The Notebook slayed me. DH came home and though somebody had died. And I'm well 'ard.

In America and Brokeback Mountain have a similar effect.

The Notebook is one of the rare exceptions where the film is better than the book imo. Still a good book but you'd be disappointed by it having seen the film already.
