Is 3D any good,do you have to take your own specs?

The dc are 6,6 and 5 and I want them to get the most out of it.

OP posts:
sunchild77 · 21/07/2010 19:38

We went on monday and we all loved it, DD (aged 4) especially. DS probably got less out of it, the glasses where way too big, but he sat still throughout!
We got the 3D glasses given out with tickets was a Vue cinema.

Thumbs up from us!

sunchild77 · 21/07/2010 19:38

Sorry meant to say DS is nearly 3.

oldenoughtowearpurple · 21/07/2010 19:41

We went 3d but my dcs are older than yours (17 and 20 actually ). We had to buy specs for £1 but they are ours to keep!!!!!!!! I don't honestly think it made that much difference but it's really hard to tell. Initially I found it a bit wierd then I just forgot about it.

Not very helpful am I? I think it might be worth £1 per child just to say you've done it but not more than that.

saffy202 · 21/07/2010 20:15

I don't think there was much difference considering it was meant to be 3D. Fab film but I am struggling to think of any 3d bits.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/07/2010 20:17

3D films are great unless you already wear glasses. Then you spend the entire film trying to keep the 3D specs on your face. We're all spec wearers, so are going to watch it in 2D.

Decorhate · 24/07/2010 13:48

I was going to ask the same question as the OP! Will be around £3 each extra for 3d - I'm sure we shelled out for the glasses before but no idea where they are now....

Sounds like we won't miss much if we settle for 2D!

domesticsluttery · 24/07/2010 20:39

We didn't bother with 3D.

We have seen a few films in 3D (including the first Toy Story) but decided not to bother this time.

The 3D cinema here is a lot more expensive than the non 3D one, it cost the five of us £17 to see it without 3D whereas it would have cost £26.50 in 3D (plus 50p each for glasses if you didn't have them alreday).

Also DD is only 4 and quite small for her age, she has trouble keeping the glasses on.

I am guessing that the scarier bits, eg falling into the incinerator and when the train came off the rails, would have been in 3D. DD was scared enough of them in 2D so I'm glad she didn't see them in 3D!

TheFoosa · 24/07/2010 20:42

I couldn't really tell it was a 3D film

the adverts were good though

LoveMyGirls · 24/07/2010 20:48

I wouldn't bother with 3D, good film though

Clayhead · 24/07/2010 20:51

I saw it in 2D and it was fab.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/07/2010 21:21

I saw it in 3D but I don't think the 3D really added anything.

NancysGarden · 24/07/2010 21:31

Saw it in 3-d: the only 3-d film I have seen since I was a child.

I did notice a few 3-d "moments", particularly in the opening sequence (flash back of a fantasy game) and a few other bits (the paroling jeep for example) but otherwise I wouldn't say it was that outstanding.

Cinema lent us the money and as I was taking my class we had a discount. Don't think I would waste the extra money if I had been forking out personally.

(Incidentally, to the poster who took a 3yo: was s/he not afraid? I was going to take my 3;9yo but found it a bit scary and quite sinister at times, or did it go right over your LO's head?)

NancysGarden · 24/07/2010 21:32

Sorry, I meant cinema lent us the glasses!!

PlumBumMum · 24/07/2010 21:36

funny ds has just the minute said I thought 3D mean't stuff would be coming out of the screen

It was only really noticable at the very start, and there was abit with a tree because I actually flinched at the branches

The 3D trailers were brilliant Narnia and some other.

Our cinema does 3D for the same price and steam cleans the 3D glasses after every use

PlumBumMum · 24/07/2010 21:38

NancysGarden My 3 yearold didn't find it scary but if your refering to Big baby dh & I thought it was scary, I did expect the dcs to say something but they didn't

NancysGarden · 24/07/2010 21:41

Just me being over-sensitive then, I found the bear pretty sinister but I won't give the plot away.

LO is pretty highly strung, but I can't keep her wrapped in cotton wool forever

JebusBuiltMyHotQuads · 26/07/2010 08:44

Forget the bear and big baby...that monkey was the stuff of nightmares [brrr]

turnitup · 26/07/2010 08:45

Brilliant film, but dont bother with 3D as it really wasnt worth it.

Jbck · 04/08/2010 22:24

Fantastic in 2D don't think I'd have got anything more out of it as bits of it were jumpy enough.

DD1 was really keen to see 3D but time didn't really suit (thankfully) and I thought she'd moan but she said she really wasn't bothered afterwards, she's almost 9 but a bit twitchy. We did Alice in 2d as well because I thought it'd be a bit too freaky and she said she was glad we hadn't done 3d for that.
