Women’s sports kit - Cricket girls on Dragon’s Den last night

Did anyone see these brilliant girls on Dragon’s Den last night here?

Two teenage cricketing sisters have launched a brand of women’s cricket kit. Most importantly white trousers with built in period protection shorts! DD(14) has played cricket for several years (and mucked about at it since she was too young to compete) and getting women’s specific kit has always been a problem. As has playing in white! DD turned up at her league age group final wearing her navy training shorts rather than “whites” as she was on her period.( Her coach raised an eyebrow, dd told him that he needed her more than she needed him (true, she’d already been asked to join a different club the following season), but they won. I think there was a small fine for non compliant kit).

Apart from addressing a problem head on, and creating a very nice looking brand, the 16&17 year old sisters who presented to the Dragons were so professional.

I’m a cyclist and have seen a few women’s cycle wear brands come and go.

I didn't say that girls county teams play in white, they don't.

Women's teams of all levels seem to play in coloured kit. My daughter's county kit is black and is allegedly 'unisex'. In practice it is made for male bodies.

I know lots of girls who play in Saturday cricket in mens/ mixed team. I've never seen a single one wear anything other than full whites.

Edited to add, my daughter has bought women's fit pads and gloves, they are brilliant, a game changer!

It probably depends on the area. Our county has offered women’s fit for a couple of years and it’s not unusual for girls to wear darker bottoms in Saturday cricket (admittedly there aren’t lots of girls playing in men’s teams). Hopefully things are changing for everyone as so many girls are put off sport in the teen years.

All 5 dragons could have opened so many doors with all of the knowledge and contacts they have.

Times are definitely changing on that front. These girls are not the only ones who are breaking into the female kit market.

More and more women and girls are accessing cricket at grass roots level now. It's really good to see.

There was an article about them in our local paper which said that the show was filmed about 16 months ago. If you look their company up on Companies House it seems that the sisters were directors but have now resigned. It looks like their father is a director and some others - perhaps where the investment came from.

That's true but everything has a price. They decided that £50k plus contacts was worth less than 25% of their company. You can't with certainty say that this is "silly".

It's possible that they only went on Dragons' Den for the exposure, which is a decision in itself.

I think it's silly but each to their own.
