Is anybody else worried about toxic 'influencers'?

I've recently learnt about these female influencers that teach women 'how to get a high value man', often suggesting that women should go for a man with money as there are 'no good men out there'. These videos are getting millions of views and I can't help but grow concerned at the idea that these influencers are trying to 'empower' young girls by teaching them how to change themselves in order to find a man? And damaging their ideas of healthy relationships?

Has anybody else noticed this? Surely this is a dangerous message to be spreading to young girls, playing into this 'tradwife' trend??

Completely agree but It's like - how would one regulate it. You can report racism for example sometimes there's even a response- but women talking complete rubbish to my DD- in my living room- that's normalised! .

Instagram is a really weird place. During Covid, after I had lost my job to redundancies and was told by the Gov to stay indoors, I spent a lot of time following and observing Influencers on the Gram. I am 58, so I'm no teen.

Some are fronts for prostitutes. They pretend to model underwear or swimwear but they are really selling something else. Lingerie sets, legs akimbo, backs arched like late 70s Page 3 girls... Endless holidays with plenty of bikini shots. They also often promote the Dubai lifestyle, the parties, the glamour, which I think is really pernicious. Anyone interested in knowing more about it should read up on Ukrainian model Maria Kovalchuk.

Other Influencers are downright liars and will advertise a soap for example and claim that it's their favourite and their family has used it for decades, but a week later they'll be flogging another soap and how they love it, used it for years, baloney. These are also whores, product whores, they are paid to flog stuff. They are also morally bankrupt. If you are bored, look up the headline Reality TV stars auditioned to 'promote' poison diet drink on Instagram

In short, to summarise:
Influencer = whore. Only interested in monetising and money. Selling and the promotion of consumerism and a materialistic culture.

It comes as no surprise to me that they've now monetise men. Maybe young girls should be reminded of Georgina Chapman and how marrying a pig for money didn't ultimately work out that well for her or her reputation.

Netflix has a fabulous documentary on Australian Health Influencer, Belle Gibson, that should be compulsory viewing for teens.
