Ryan Al Najjar honour killing

I’ve just been reading this story online and it’s absolutely abhorrent. The thought that that poor girl may have been killed in the way that the court has described makes me feel completely sick. The father has absconded to Syria where he is currently unable to be extradited. He has written a letter to state that his sons are innocent and he was responsible. His sons are currently on trial.

Ive tried to find a mumsnet palatable news source but it will surprise you not that all the left leaning publications have currently decided to not report it.

Even the complete disinterest on here is interesting. Girls really are disposable aren’t they.

What is the story?

Lead story on the Daily Mail.

surreygirly · 28/11/2025 11:27

Feel so sorry for the girl but why do we allow people from this culture into the UK
Incredible
You are of course correct the BBC and Guardian will never report stuff like that#]If a white guy had killed her they would be all over it and there would be mass protests in the street by the banner wavers rent a protest

Birthdaysocks · 28/11/2025 11:36

It isn't disinterest, it's disillusionment.

Any discussion will invariably lead to accusations of racism or islamophobia. Or frothing. So we stand back and watch. This is the only way the west is permitted to react in 2025. Don't expect it to change.

NotrialNodeal · 28/11/2025 11:41

Just read the story on the daily mail. Absolutely horrific. What a tragic story. The saddest part is that of course, she isn't the first girl to be murdered for the sake of 'honour', nor will she be the last.

If you read it you'd know that it didn't happen in the UK.
Not that we don't have our fair share of such barbarism, but if you're going to comment, at least make an effort to read what you're commenting on.

Ryan's mother wrote: "God willing, we will see her wrapped in a shroud. Ryan is a disgrace to the family and deserves to die."

This dreadful murder didn’t happen in the U.K. Perhaps check facts before spouting such rubbish.

BakeOffRewatch · 28/11/2025 11:54

It’s horrific. There’s a charity in the UK that helps women escape and build their lives, I recommend donating https://www.mwnuk.co.uk they do it in a way that is sensitive to the women and girls own values and beliefs which makes it much more successful. This is a 2015 interview with the founder, tagging an old article because it goes into detail about the kind of targeted work they do. It’s not one about image of the community. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/jan/19/muslim-womens-network-chair-lot-of-women-suffering-silence

Shaista Gohir: ‘I wish the words shame and honour could be deleted’

Homa Khaleeli: As the head of the Muslim Women’s Network, Shaista Gohir is determined to give a voice to those who need it to fight against abuse, persecution and inequality

Unfortunately we live in a man’s world where girls unfortunately, really are disposable.
Then there are the anti-Islamophobia and anti racist lobby who will put in their piece to prevent justice being done.
This case is truly shocking and it dismays me that Women’s voices are being drowned out.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 28/11/2025 12:02

To be fair, the same comment would hold true for the Netherlands.
I still haven’t found an accessible current source. All I’ve seen is that her local boyfriend didn’t want her to wear the veil, I don’t know how she felt. So a story about men’s choices killing women.

JahanaraBegum · 28/11/2025 12:12

Heart broken for this poor woman. If anyone UK-based wants to support, here are some wonderful UK charities that work against honour stuff-- The Sharan Project and Karma Nirvana.

Ah. Thanks. As ever, nothing ‘honourable’ about it

GingerBeverage · 28/11/2025 13:17

I would like to know why they removed her police protection.

Also I think people get desensitised to anything like this as it’s so common

HostaCentral · 28/11/2025 13:25

Whether it is in the Netherlands, it Germany, or Sweden, or here, the same issues prevail.

Seeking safety in a Western country, benefitting from freedoms, support and safety, and then refusing to live by the cultural norms of that country, and continuing to live seperate lives due to religious beliefs or downright misogyny.

Women need protection.

EvelynBeatrice · 28/11/2025 13:30

I am concerned that the Labour proposals to attempt to define and criminalise ‘Islamaphobia’ will, however restrictively defined, effectively prevent - or at best inhibit - discussion such as this. No cultural practices or religion should be immune from criticism or debate in any so called civilised democratic nation.

Incitement to violence etc is already criminalised. Why do we need anything else if not to stifle debate?!

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 28/11/2025 14:18

GingerBeverage · 28/11/2025 13:17

That bit jumped out at me too. I know it’s not the UK but I wonder if we’ll ever know why they ceased to protect her. Did she have anyone supporting her if her mother was also complicit. What a torturous unbearable way to die.

A) it's now on the metro which is very left leaning

B) as pps have corrected you, it didn't happen in the uk. How many of the approx 120 murders in the Netherlands receive press attention in the uk as a matter of course?

Weaponising this poor girls death by completely misrepresenting, in fact lying, about what happened for political points is disgusting.

NotrialNodeal · 28/11/2025 16:26

Honour-based killings are not random acts of violence – they are deeply rooted in cultural norms and beliefs. By failing to accurately target the communities most at risk, we are effectively condoning these atrocities and perpetuating a cycle of violence and oppression.
Ryan Al Najjar's death is not being weaponsied for political points. What lies have been told @tokennamechange ?

Whatisthisdamnednonsense · 28/11/2025 16:30

“Honour killing” - this euphemism enrages me every time I read it. Where is the “honour” in FEMICIDE?

“Honour killing” - this euphemism enrages me every time I read it. Where is the “honour” in FEMICIDE?

Quite. There is no honour in being a mysoginistic, ill-educated piece of dirt who runs back to his previous country to hide, while simultaneously protecting his equally ill-educated mysoginistic filthy offspring by saying it was him. What a disgusting pile of excrement they are. I would be so tempted to head up a vigilante mob if I were living anywhere near them.

Craftysue · 28/11/2025 17:11

The very people who should love and protect you the most and their family reputation means more than their own daughter. I can't imagine how any parent can do this to their own child and for her mother not to protect her!!
I agree we need to stop calling this crime honour killing - it's cold blooded murder
RIP Ryan - I hope your murderers rot

HostaCentral · 29/11/2025 16:45

The irony being that country suddenly becoming safe when you have committed a murder in the West.
