Your opinion on onlyfans?

What do you all think of onlyfans? I know some people see it as empowering and allow women to take control of their body and choices.

I think completely the opposite - I come from a conservative background and it's not something that sits easy with me. I think there's so much wrong with it, it promotes the idea of men owning or being able to buy women.

I also think it's terrible. If I had a daughter and she chose to become an onlyfans model, I would be distraught. I don't understand why so many women are fine with it and I also think people like Bonnie blue are absolutely poor role models for young girls.

It's gotten so bad that I don't even know if I'm allowed to criticise it openly. What do you think?

OF has cleverly initiated a narrative of how it’s empowering women. Be a girl boss. Women in charge. Democratisation of porn. Yadda Fuckin Yadda
Nope. It’s the commoditisation of women for sexual (predominantly) male gaze. A tale as old as time.

Bonnie Blue, pretends she’s doing the girl boss thing, in charge of her sexuality etc. usual male tropes of gang bang and or pretty girl gagging for it.

porn is the commoditisation of women. Certain age, size and look eg cheerleader, plastic tits, rubbery lips. The aesthetic doesn’t match what regular women look like.

whenever I hear ill thought out ideas such as legal prostitution, licensed brothel I could weep. The demographic of who ends up in prostitution is v sad
trauma/loss✔️
care leavers✔️
instability at home✔️
alcohol or substance use✔️
The state really doesn’t need to be getting tax and ni from the vulnerable

And, yes, I know the tropes of the ivy league or oxbridge grad who pays way through oncology or law post grad by being an escort. It’s a woman choice eyc

Ilovemychocolate · 28/10/2025 23:24

It’s exploitation of women for the gratification of men.

RoamingToaster · 31/10/2025 08:25

I think there are some women who earn a lot and so they might not regret doing it as they've made their money, however there are lots who earn hardly anything and they've put videos out in such a vulnerable state.

Overall for society it's horrible as it's just another thing to objectify women. It's seen as something to joke about in everyday life.

Things like page 3 of the Sun seem so quaint but the banning of that was supposed to be a step forward, but clearly not in the society we live in.

Tootingbec · 31/10/2025 08:37

I was at FiLiA and one of the presenters at a session on porn described Only Fans as a “digital pimp”

It provides a “legitimate” face of exploitation of women, all dressed up as choice and empowerment. De-sensitises society about the impact of porn and prostitution on all of us. And hides the horror stories behind why women end up on Only Fans and worse.

And the only people who actually make any money from it are the men running Only Fans, the men running Private Equity who invest, and the men running financial institutions providing credit card services.

i heard on the radio this morning that Porn Hub has had a 75% drop in revenue since age verification came in. I am currently playing the worlds smallest violin.🎻

Weirdest · 31/10/2025 08:53

To be honest, I think it’s gross and I personally wouldn’t do it…but equally I don’t care enough that others might be posting their own content on there.

Women/young people aren’t a hive mind and ultimately other women can make their own decisions about what is suitable for them and what isn’t. I wouldn’t do it, but it’s really not my concern if others engage.

I do think a certain type of person gets attracted to the idea of having an only fans account - it might be that they are easy to exploit. It’s basically just a more socially acceptable form of porn but to me, it clearly has the same connotations. Whereas I think some people think its different to porn and think they are in control because they might not post nude or couple content? ultimately I think it’s a case where the revenue stream will die out unless they post more & more explicit content. So it’s only a matter of time before their audience pressurises them into more but they don’t understand when starting out.

someone like Bonnie blue is probably not completely well and she has definitely fallen into the slippery slope of being more and more extreme to maintain an audience

surreygirly · 31/10/2025 09:24

I know a girl who earns a LOT of money doing it

I guess that is the appeal ?

Frankie47 · 31/10/2025 09:28

I think for the individual women it may feel empowering and purely transactional but it’s the impact on women as a whole that is the problem. Onlyfans, porn, Hooters bars, strip clubs all normalise the objectification and exploitation of women’s bodies and leaves the rest of us trying to meet impossible physical expectations. I would feel a lot better about being flat chested and nearly fifty if this shit didn’t exist but I guess it always will do.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 07/11/2025 15:25

DS1's Ex used to do it. Made shed loads of money. He used to worry about her. Said she'd never get rid of all that porny stuff off the Internet but she wasn't worried. It wasn't his decision so she kept doing it. May still be.

VoodooQualities · 12/11/2025 19:57

It's still buying women for money even if it's not actual prostitution, or if the women are in charge and making money. It's safer than prostitution or porn for the women involved but we should be aiming higher than this, not just shrugging and saying 'well if you can't beat em join em'.

I also worry about the young men in this equation. They should be out getting a girlfriend and building a life with her, having real and meaningful sex with love involved, not amassing a collection of clips on their hard drive and paying money for the privilege.

PracticalPixie · 12/11/2025 20:02

I agree with the pp who said that people who make a lot of money on there may not regret it, as it was a means to an end.

I have heard of people who start an OF account to make money though, and end up not making anything, but people in their area have seen their profiles etc, which is quite embarrassing for them.

I don't support using it at all. It shouldn't be difficult for men to just not pay women for sex / adult content. So, I don't accept any arguments from men in defence of their using it.

VoodooQualities · 12/11/2025 20:12

I imagine it doesn't even enter into many men's heads that they have to defend using it. It's normal, ubiquitous and done in private anyway.

JudgeBread · 12/11/2025 20:26

Just because the women are choosing to be exploited doesn't mean they're not being exploited. It's still an industry that relies on the mentality that a man can buy a woman, whether she's making the choice to be that product or not.

I'm never going to be ok with that no matter how many people tell me it's empowerment not exploitation. That's just another lie men have sold women to convince them to keep being subservient sexual objects.

RaininSummer · 12/11/2025 20:40

I think it's a gross thing to do but the money must be appealing and few think of any long term impacts.

Lostuser · 12/11/2025 20:41

It’s the modern day version of page three, vile

Speckson · 13/11/2025 00:00

I know a bloke that paid his way through Uni by posing on a porn site. I imagine that as a short term way of earning good money it's efficient - so long as you aren't planning to go into politics or similar later.

Augustus40 · 14/11/2025 05:11

Despite feeling I am strongly feminist I have no issue with women earning on OnlyFans.

On an individual level I might agree. What do you think about the societal level though? The ubiquity of pornographic content and the effect that has, surely as a feminist you would have a negative view of that?

PiccadillyPurple · 14/11/2025 08:21

The thought of it makes me feel uncomfortable. I'm not the sort of person anyone would be interested in watching on a porn site, but if I were I think it would leave me feeling tainted at the very least.

PracticalPixie · 14/11/2025 08:24

I have no problem with women using it to make money. Why shouldn't they? I assume it is the best option for them based on their own assessment.

I do have a problem with men (people?) who use it. I also have a problem with people being coerced into it whether that be coercion as abuse or even just having (or seeing) no other viable option economically. Same with all sex work.

I think OF is distinct from regular porn in that a pretty high number of them don't actually have sex on camera. Some don't show their genitalia up close etc and do softer stuff. A woman with massive boobs can make an absolute killing while doing what would be considered relatively soft pornography in the whole scheme of things.

I still find it a bit grimy and I'm sure many wouldn't be too happy if their son's classmates found their content in a decade's time. But if you're a pretty sexually uninhibited person I can see how making a high earner salary for prancing around nude in your bedroom might be attractive.

You can't have one without the other surely. Fine for women to sell themselves, not fine for men to buy them. This doesn't compute in my head, can you expand on why one's OK but not the other?

Jellyrose20 · 03/12/2025 22:03

If something is truly empowering men would be doing it. Men in their droves are not doing it. Therefore it is not empowering.
It is exploitation marketed as empowering in a capitalist society.

Potn · 04/12/2025 21:24

I know a pornstar who is in the top 0.01% of earners (according to her dashboard) and doesn't make anywhere near the amount of money you sometimes see advertised online. I think a lot of women exaggerate their earnings to recruit people under them.

Said pornstar regular escorts which presumably she wouldn't bother with if she was making huge amount of cash on onlyfans.

She has over 5 million followers on Instagram which is effectively a sales funnel for her OF. I therefore can well believe she would be in the top 0.01% of earners. I feel sorry for the women who bare everything online only to earn well below minimum wage.

Well, one of you is telling porkies!

You need to be making over $100k a month to be in the top 0.1% so your friend defo shouldn't need to escort. The very top earners are making millions a month - Blac Chyna makes over $20m a month!

There are loads of quite young girls (barely out their teens) with nice apartments etc just from OF. Minimum wage lol.
