Google and Flo (which is owned by a man named Dimitri) will have to pay a combined $56 million dollars.
A jury found that Meta illegally collected data (meta appealed but lost). Documents also showed that meta employees made jokes such as ‘may the flow be with you'

I know we have our GDPR rules here but could there be some European lawsuits as well?

Good that they've been fined for this breach of privacy though I'm concerned it's not enough to be a deterrent.

Should we be worried about all these apps? I use Stardust and hadn't considered they might be sending the data to third parties.

I use Stardust as well. I changed from Clue after Roe V Wade was overturned and stories were coming out that the data period trackers held could be sent to government bodies. I’m not in the US but at that time Stardust said they would never ever ever send info to any governments around the world so I switched to them (but obviously we should never take these statements as gospel).

There’s an ongoing class action in Spain so would be interesting to see if this could be investigated in other European countries.

Association IUS Omnibus, supported by Spanish law firm Suderow Fernandez Abogadas, plan to file a class action lawsuit against Flo Health, Inc., in Spain, aiming to protect the right to privacy and intimacy of private life of Spanish consumers. Between 2016 and 2019 Flo Health collected user data related to menstruation, health and sex life, and disclosed it to companies engaged in data analytics and targeted advertisement activities.
IUS Omnibus are seeking a ruling that Flo Health violated the right to privacy of Spanish users of Flo Health through the unlawful sharing of their data with third parties, and to obtain compensation for the damages caused to the consumers that have used the Flo Health App. They also hope to obtain new/updated jurisprudence on the right to privacy and data protection in terms of how it links to sexual and reproductive rights.
