I think "we" is doing a lot of work there.
To be honest, as a woman if I saw someone in trouble I would try to help. Ideally without putting myself in danger. But I'd call the police if someone was being attacked. I've stopped and helped at road traffic accidents. If someone was drowning I'd try to help. There are responsibilities on us as human beings that also apply to men. But that doesn't mean men should put themselves in unnecessary danger any more than women should. Phones exist. So does going up and talking to someone experiencing racist/sexist abuse without confronting the agressor directly. (If you can take out a gang of ne'er do wells singlehandedly then that's obviously great. By all means do it of the need arises. But I swear some men fantasise about being an action hero and then start to feel resentment that they had to be a hero in their (imaginary) scenario.)
That's a world away from shouting at hotels or aggressively starting fights with other men for looking at their woman and then going home and hitting that same woman.
