In plain sight - comments by men at adverts

I noticed some time ago on the bin fire that is X, that if the charity Refuge put out a promotional appeal, the comments were just horrific.

I thought that maybe X is just especially bad and didn't look anymore.

I'm on LinkedIn, a so called professional platform. There's a current advert by Scottish Widows about the pension pay gap. The comments are just as horrific.

These are men under their professional profiles making comments like. ..

There is no gap

Women don't work as long or as hard

What about the family court gender gap against men

When did you see a woman repairing a road in winter

It is unbelievable. So depressing.

Women are making massive leaps and bounds in society and some men fucking hate us as they always have and don't want us in their space. Tough fucking shit for them, they had better get used to it.

I agree but I've also met a fair few horrid females over the years too. The types that like to gossip, make nasty comments, and form little cliques at work etc. So I don't think it's really helpful to create an 'us' and 'them' dynamic with men. It's better to judge people on their individual merits IMO.

Not mending the roads but certainly saw plenty of old ladies in Ukraine shovel snow and scrape ice off pavements in winter when I went, Dec 2008.

The thing I always try to remember about these comments is that the kind of men who can actually be arsed to write them are the kind who have an axe to grind. Normal men don’t bother, so you aren’t seeing a random cross-section of men (fortunately).

I only create an us and them dynamic with men who have those attitudes. I don't want anything to do with them. And as men commit nearly all crime, particularly violent and sexual crime, it very much is us and them. It's not a case that the sexes are the same or women are as bad as men as we really aren't, and I utterly reject any attempt to blame women for men's behaviour or crimes. Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them. End of. It's not the same.

Well, yeah, men are far more violent. I just don't tend to view all men as the same when going about my daily life. Interpersonal violence isn't really top of the list of things I'm worried about on the average day at work.

Sorry, that was a bit facetious tbf.

I guess I can just see both sides of the coin. Women don't tend to work as many hours but then of course we often do more of the domestic work.

But both sexes moan about their individual bugbears. I see a lot of posters on here complaining about how the man gets to swan into the office and keep his career going whilst they sacrifice theirs.

But for every post like that there's another one like "changed my mind about returning to FT work. DH not happy", which makes me think a lot of men don't like shouldering the full financial responsibility.

But I've defo not seen a female road worker yet!

We have 2 female dustbin wagon drivers 😀 at my Council, the people running street cleaning, car parks and the Finance Director are all female :-)

I say that as in disrespect towards women fuels a disrespect back towards men. I certainly don’t have any respect for men who disrespect women.

Edited

The fact that men call women whom disagree, or stand up for the rights they still have “misandrist “ tells you everything you need to know.

~Some Men have now decided that women who are outspoken and argue back, obviously hate men.

Being a mother of 3 boys, and in the past, been a quite a strident feminist, I want my boys to grow up with respect and regard for all women … not teach them that we’re better or more worthy.

I’m so fed up of the roadworks argument. Who’s cleaning up all the shit in care homes up and down the country? Very, very few men, that’s for sure.

Before anyone says’ ‘but I know a male care worker’ yes so do I.

There are defo more male carers and nurses than female roadworkers, but I take your point.
