This came up in my local Facebook. I'ce used Ai to rephrase it 'like a social worker' to keep my and the OP's anonymity. Would value your opinions.

Opinions on school allowing your children to learn massage’s on other pupils in year 2/3??? For “mental health” because I do not agree and never gave consent for my child to massage another child or a child massage my child?? What’s peoples views , I also NEVER learned that in school!! I don’t think it’s something a school should be teaching children, and feel like I know want to know every single class my child has, what they’re learning etc. feel like they are teaching our children absolutely nothing they actually need to learn! Why the hell do they need to learn to massage at such a young age baffles me!!!!!

I wouldn’t want my child involved in that at all. Hard no.

Absolutely not. It is totally inappropriate. I am qualified in therapeutic massage and I think this is not something that should be done by/to children. Teachers barely have time to teach children basic subjects. Massage is such an intimate and skilled process. I just don't understand the thought process here.

Depends what they mean by massage. I'm guessing it's essentially shoulder rubs over clothes and can be used to learn about consent and judging whether people are happy with touch.

My child had this in infant school. They sit in a circle and 'massage' each others shoulders.

I'm not a massive fan. I told my child they could sit out if they wanted to.

CroysantNotKwason · 11/11/2024 11:23

Nope. It's best to teach children to keep their hands to themselves.

Why?? What’s it supposed to achieve? It sounds quite bizarre, tbh.

My DD did this in reception at her school - we moved her at Christmas (not because of this) so not sure if it carried on.

She'd come home and do it on us, including the bit they'd been taught at the start to ask permission. And then she basically just drew swirly patterns on our backs with her hands. I'm not sure what the point was.

EVHead · 11/11/2024 12:59

This was all the rage when DD was at school 15 years ago. The kids seemed to find it relaxing.
