Sexist estate agent

Currently getting estates agents in to value my house. I've lived in this area all my life and know it well. A few of the same bungalow built on this estate in 1930s all are different due to various extensions over the years . Great public transport links very quiet large gardens . Zoopla valuations with medium confidence with a 100k range Last time I had a proper survey done for mortgage came out right at top of zoopla band. I know these can be overstated but I've had improvements done since then. Anyway youngish male agent turns up and gives me hard sell and kept calling me darling. This wasn't a sweet older guy but he was almost young enough to be my son. Can't believe the attitude and he spoke like I was an idiot when I pointed out his valuation was right below the lowest zoopla. I'm in no rush to move just getting an idea of value to help with house hunting but is this normal? I couldn't help thinking that he probably has a developer mate on speed dial looking for a quick bargain . Any one else had this experience and or any tips ? Other than get a female agent ?

It’s really unprofessional and would flag it

find a really good local agency with people who know the area

Get 3 different valuations.

Unless he would have called an older man "darling" or "love" it was sexist. Talk to the agency and tell them exactly why you don't want to use their services.

I'm a female valuer, zoopla isn't always 100% correct, value is also decided on comparables on the area and condition of the property, it's always best to get a few valuations, mostly they over value because they want to win your business, if i price on the lower side it's because I think it needs updating. Another reason for it not comparing to zoopla is because similar properties are not achieving that high and a more accurate valuation is done on recent sold prices not what is actually on the market, as some agents will value higher to win the business.

Could be two different issues? Yes he probably is sexist and has clearly not learnt the best and most professional way to speak to female clients. The valuation might be fair or unfair, see what the other agencies say.

It's just the tone . Difficult to describe but I think we have all been there with patronising guys. Not sure about updating just coming to end of a complete refurb though it is not grey as I loathe grey so mostly farrow and ball white tie skimming stone and setting plaster paint ...

Bungalows are in short supply. Get three valuations and if you get another wide boy call him babe! He'll run like hell. 😁

On an aside note I was banned by two agents from viewing as I wouldn't offer their inflated guide prices (posh area that is second homes and London purchasers). My family have been here since 1400 so I wasn't being scared into a big ticket purchase by a shiny suited Johnny.

And getting some others in as would never take one world for it. Mind you I did look at a developer of new build with an instant part ex valuation which came in 20k higher and a less good version of my place sold I. The next road for 25k more a few weeks ago

Wait until the refurb is complete it gives a much better impression. I personally hate valuing properties that aren't complete, I want to see it finished so I can be certain it's worth the market value.
