Hi all! Thank you for your lovely comments! Appreciate them. I will do my best to learn the ropes quickly! Are you all still on TOL or left after the name policy?

Some of the the comments are becoming very Twitter like- I am not into conspiracy theories but it seems as there are many bots on there or activists and as soon as you post something they disagree with, they start to become abusive and mean.

What do you guys think? Will JK Rowling's intervention have any impact? I know I am voting on this issue alone. Too important imho!

Hi BKG welcome to MN, I’m another TOL comments refugee ever since the names policy. I think TOL are trying to court younger readers so the mods are favouring commenters such as Steve Cambridge and Ian Hislop. Just to warn you there are also lots of bots and activists on MN particularly on the the feminism topics. I quite enjoy duelling with them because eventually they out themselves from pure frustration when they’re having to respond to several posters simultaneously arguing with them😂.

I actually still comment on TOL, until I get too irate at the old white blokes who inevitably turn up to tell you how they had it worse. I'm still fuming at one from 3 weeks ago. Have had a break for my sanity!

I got really p*d of with TOL because of the names policy which was really an attack on free speech. The basic level of journalism has been dumbed down a lot but now and again there is a really good article and I like reading the commentators

I'm not actually convinced that they check you're using your real name, given that when I originally signed up I used a real looking fake name as my user ID, and I've never bothered to change it. I'm not much of a commenter, but do occasionally, and they've never picked me up on it. I don't know how they enforce it if you try to change it though.

Welcome @BritishKashmiriGirl .

I'm usually around early morning so I run an imaginary cafe for other insomniacs if you ever want a chat at 4.00am.

Hello British Kashmiri Girl, I’ve been reading your comments in the Times for years under your BKG moniker and latterly under M Durrani. Lately I have not found much of your content, so I have been Googling to see where you might have moved your writing to.

Do you write professionally? I see you have a Medium and a Substack, but neither have recent content.

Are you the same M Durrani with the Facebook page on clothing? The one that said that you got a paediatric nursing degree in 2013, got married, moved to Saudi, moved back to the UK, etc. That Facebook is also defunct.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/07/2024 08:46

I see Babdoc in the comments quite often so I like to give a recommend. I subscribe to the Times but have an unusual name so wary of public comment.

I stopped using twitter after my adult DD berated me for my GC posts, so really Mumsnet is my only safe space!
