I know I'm posting this on a women's board, but I wish men would get involved in conversations about how to avoid male violence towards women. They're the ones doing it yet there's no discourse among them about how to stop it. In fact most of the seemed to think it's exaggerated, or perpetrated by "monsters". which means it doesn't apply to them.

Man arrested over fatal stabbing of woman in Bradford city centre

Habibur Masum, 25, apprehended after four-day manhunt on suspicion of murdering Kulsuma Akter, 27

The police are very cagey about the relationship between Masum and his victim but admit she'd complained to them about him. Once again, the police did little and now she's dead. You're right about the word Monster, it makes people feel better, they're not like him, the truth is lots of men are just like him, they just need the catalyst that tips them over the edge.

I have struggled so much to contain my anger over what happened to this woman, Kulsuma Akter (I thin remembering her name rather than his is important). She was in broad daylight in a busy street. With her baby in a pram. It just defies belief.

The Guardian was claiming yesterday that the suspect had previously been bailed for assaulting and threatening to kill her. He was released on bail despite objections of prosecutors, according to the article. I'm not sure if it was the police or the courts who failed her, but she was failed.

She must have been so scared of him. She was let down so badly, as was her baby, who will now have to grow up without a mother. There was a line in this article, the West Yorkshire police assistant chief constable Damien Miller said: “Her baby is safe and well and was not harmed in this incident.” I just read that and thought, that is so so far from the truth.

Suspect in stabbing of Kulsuma Akter was on bail over alleged threat to kill her

Habibur Masum was previously charged with assault and threatening to kill 27-year-old who was stabbed to death in Bradford on Saturday

At least they've caught him. He's an animal who'll spend decades in prison and then be deported.

He should have had his student visa cancelled the moment he issued threats to kill. Someone who thinks he has the right to kill a defenceless person is not capable of being educated.

This man was interviewed on the BBC news for yesterday's report on Kulsuma Akter's brutal murder. He said the tragedy in this case was that her baby would grow up motherless.

That little baby will be too young to remember what happened, but I don't doubt as he grows up that he will experience lifelong effects, in whatever form, knowing his mother was murdered.

BUT the tragedy here is that this woman lost her life at the hands of a violent man.

The police always wait until the woman is dead. Every time I see this type of attack on the news it is the same thing. I always think, it is the husband/ partner/ ex and I bet she has already told the police about his threats.

Tempnamechng · 09/04/2024 21:56

It feels even worse that she had history with him, she knew he was coming for her and must have lived in fear for herself and her baby. I wonder what it was all about. We can do better as a country, once a foreign national proves himself to be a danger to women, he must be removed.

EvenStillIWantTo · 09/04/2024 21:57

There's a live thread on here tonight from a woman who called the police on her ex who patronised and ignored her, and now his behaviour is escalating she doesn't know what to do. This js exactly how situations like this occur.

I agree. I thought what he said was awful. Why would the tragedy of the Woman being violently killed not be THE tragedy? I think it's quite telling how that was worded when it was clear it was something he'd thought about and felt needed emphasised.

These cases prove that violent men who are determined to kill women who have the courage to leave them are NOT afraid of Police sanctions. He was bailed on the condition he kept away from her but just didnt care, perhaps he planned to be out of the country before he could be caught?
Who knows but it shows that the system as is CANNOT protect women from men who want to kill them

There is a strong correlation between boys growing up in a single parent home and violent crime.

Most single parents are women.

This is my belief too. He was willing to serve life imprisonment in exchange for indulging his violence. It doesn't seem possible that the police could have prevented this.

Yes, that's true. But I think it's more the lack of a father figure than the failure of the mother that influences this (which arguably shows how much we take fathers for granted).

Hereyoume · 11/05/2024 10:03

Since 2009, approximately 2000 women have been killed by men in the UK.

The reason "men" aren't talking about it, is because 99.98% of them aren't killing anyone.

What exactly would you like them to do OP?

We are all just animals. We have much higher degree of sentience than your average cow, but we are still animals.

Some of us behave that way. Some of us are "monsters" in that sense. And nobody can stop that.

"Men" aren't responsible for the murdering psychopaths that walk amongst us.

Yes, couldn't agree more. Its deeply troubling. Surely Zero Tolerance is the only approach.
