Magaluf: what causes this pack mentality in some men?

Just read the judge’s comments from the recent gang rape of a young British woman in Magaluf. Phone evidence (from the men’s own phones!) shows eight men either involved in sexually assaulting or passively watching (and recording) the unconscious girl, who was in no position to give consent.
Looking at the photos of the men arrested, they appear to be fairly young. What on Earth leads a young group of friends on holiday to perform this action? Why did they all go along with it?
I can understand how evil people find each other online to commit atrocities, but can’t understand how a group of friends can all be of the same mentality. How many others would do the same? It’s terrifying.

'Pack mentality' is in the thread title so I think the OP understands that bit- lots of responses saying 'because herd mentality' aren't really adding much.

I read it 'this pack mentality' as related to the specific situation, so 'what makes men join in with sexual violence?'

And it's misogyny, porn culture, the knowledge that rape is effectively legalised.

And yes actually the fact that there may have been some men approached who didn't join in but yet didn't report it? They could be dads, husbands, brothers of girls and women.

I mean it is a type of herd mentality, it's just the 'herd' is the entire patriarchal society. 3 men in a hotel room you're passing is not a 'herd' that you feel psychological pressure to join in and commit atrocities with.

I've seen the Spanish football kisser today, hadn't seen the footage before. The entitlement. The 'look at me, the alpha male' flows off him. His subsequent press conference is a masterpiece of narcissistic self-justification and snivelling 'its not fair, I'm just being a man'. The Spanish Womens team are now refusing to play until he resigns. Good for them. Male entitlement across the bloody board.

Happens EVERY. TIME. Along with the NAMALT's. I can't read these posts anymore where we (women) try and discuss male violence. A NAMALT is always the third or fourth post.

If you look at the way he holds her head, there is not the remotest chance she can avoid the kiss. It's vice-like. The ownership and arrogance of it!

Can you imagine that the other way round? As women we are bloody fed up of it and done with being polite and pandering to men’s feelings. Some women are violent and awful but hardly any not anywhere near the scale that men are - it’s laughable to even try to argue otherwise.

We are not here to be mauled - manhandled - at the whim of any passing male. So depressing to see some posters on this thread trying to justify it. What is it? Stockholm Syndrome or similar?

Try imagining a young man/ boy being sexually assaulted by a group of women and then other women ( strangers) being invited to join in the assault and actually doing so. Would that ever ever happen? I would bet my mortgage not!

Couldn’t help but notice on booking.com there is a review of that same hotel BH Mallorca (?) in Magaluf from August 9th from another woman. Has anyone read the reviews on there?

This is the species that invented nuclear weapons. Every thing useful gets turned into a weapon. Not by women, but by men. They have always spread rumours and fears of women doing the same to excuse themselves at every turn - witness the old myth about boy-child-killing feminists, by the species that regularly around the world kills females for not being as valuable as males.

Pack mentality and sadly I think most men can easily fall into this pattern of behaviour especially when drink and drugs are involved not just the more aggressive men

you see this a lot of Thailand and Amsterdam men out for sex they know they can have as it’s their right it’s really unnerving to see it made me feel ill and I feel so sorry for the women who have to deal with these men it must be soul destroying
