She was an amazing woman, brave feminist and beautiful talent.

I'm sad she's gone.💔

Me too! She was amazing. Such an incredible talent.

Needmorelego · 27/07/2023 07:15

@TooBigForMyBoots can’t you say it as “has died”? It sounds so much less harsh and more respectful than “is dead”.

Croneofakind · 27/07/2023 07:34

Feeling a little bit heartbroken at this news. Her music saw me through some difficult times.

inverness123 · 27/07/2023 07:37

Such a sad loss, and so young. Not sure what you’re getting at @Needmorelego - what is disrespectful about saying she is dead?

Vicliz24 · 27/07/2023 07:58

A huge loss . Brave and committed to calling out wrongs . Such a fabulous voice too .

Oh shush.

Messyhair321 · 27/07/2023 08:52

RIP. Such a huge personality & so honest. Calling out the wrongs way ahead of her time, which she paid for in spades.
She was the product of an abusive system & rightly she spoke out against it.
I've enjoyed her music since the 1980's I bought the lion & the cobra just because of the cover.bi knew I'd love it & I did.
RIP brave soul

Needmorelego · 27/07/2023 10:14

I just don’t like the dramatic-ness of “is dead”.
I find it harsh, clunky and disrespectful.
She has died.
I hope she Rests in Peace 💐

Interesting opinion but not really the place to discuss such a commonly used phrase here. Good thing there's another big thread to focus on the lady herself.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/07/2023 14:55

I worked in an adjacent industry and was fortunate enough to encounter her a few times. She was so captivating, professional and vulnerable.

She was a magnificent feminist and fuck did she pay the price for it.

I think tone is dependent on lots of things and is more to do with your background and experience as the recipient than with any disrespect from @TooBigForMyBoots
Years ago I saw Reginald D Hunter who started talking about Michael Jackson by saying he was a great artist but "he dead!" then doing a fake posh English accent and saying "surely you mean he died?" "No! First him die. Now he dead"

Nonsense.

Needmorelego · 27/07/2023 15:18

Ok folks…just my personal opinion.
As there were already 2 (3?) threads about Sinead I didn’t see the need for a “dramatic” announcement from the OP.
Anyway RIP Sinead.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/07/2023 15:59

@Needmorelego It was not "dramatic", it was factual. I have neither the inclination nor the bandwidth to consider the sensibilities of all MNet users before I post.

You may want to ask yourself why you had such a strong reaction to the thread title that you chose to me-rail a FWR thread about the inspirational, blunt feminist: Sinead O'Connor.

OP posts:
Needmorelego · 27/07/2023 16:03

@TooBigForMyBoots I apologise.
As I said there was already 2 (possibly 3) threads running and I didn’t see a need for another which announced something in what I personally think is a non respectful way.
I accept I seem to be the only one who finds it a clunky way to announce a person’s passing.
Apologies again.

HarrietJet · 27/07/2023 16:21

Why do you feel it's your place to admonish someone for posting a thread you "didn't see the need for", @Needmorelego ? Op didn't see the need for your response, either.

I met her a few times too and used to talk to her on the phone regularly. She was so soft spoken but had such life behind those eyes. She was so funny and endlessly mischievous, alongside her vulnerability. I feel very lucky to have crossed paths with her at all. Such. An enormous inspiration for a generation of Irish women. She really taught us how to speak up for ourselves and take no shit.

chinchin77 · 27/07/2023 16:38

Very sad, adored her.

She is dead, there is no sugarcoating on this - just like my husband is dead, he didn't 'pass away' he died and is dead. Completely ok to say this as it's the truth.

Needmorelego · 27/07/2023 16:44

@HarrietJet ok ok. I have apologised.
Lets leave it at that.

She did that and more. I loved it when she was ordained. She made so many of the comfortable, middle class RTE and music executive men angry and uncomfortable.

We could do with more like her.

Shouldn't we refer to her as Shuhada Sadaqat? She changed her name a fair few years back when she converted to Islam if I'm not mistsken.

But professionally she was still Sinead OConnor. Her website & SM are all under that name

MrsTaytodarling · 29/07/2023 01:53

Has died/she's dead, whatever. I just hope she finally has peace....wonderful woman

Probs for monetary reasons I'm guessing. She seemed very serious about her Islamic faith. Tbh I was surprised as it's a very patriarchal religion.
