Just had an email from Next advertising little girls’ outfits for summer. It is headed Next has their outfit sorted.

No you don’t have their outfit sorted Next - you have her outfit sorted. You are talking about little girls, show some basic decency please.

Jesus

CC4712 · 11/06/2023 14:51

I agree it’s not the worst, but I think this nonsense should be called out whenever it arises.

And I'm going to call you out OP as the most batshit, crazy, nonsense post I've read today! 😂

Prescottdanni123 · 11/06/2023 14:52

I'd read it as 'their' meaning girls plural

Hesma · 11/06/2023 14:53

🤣🤣🤣

Goldrushed · 11/06/2023 15:01

Oh my god, life is too short for nitpicking like this.

GreenWheat · 11/06/2023 15:04

Good grief I knew there was a reason I end up hiding this board every few months or so.

StaunchMomma · 11/06/2023 15:10

So we're not allowed to use normal words from our language, in the correct context, meaning something for 'a group' any more?

'Her' outfit suggests one person. They are clearly saying all/many.

The sentence is perfectly fine and what most people would use when suggesting something is for a group of any kind.

This is a tad hysterical, IMO.

heccc · 11/06/2023 15:17

Do stop 😂 It's fine and just suggests a plural. (Besides which - does the email mention "girlswear"? Do Next even use gender neutral language - I seem to remember men/women/boys/girls sections on their website and in stores?)

Getting annoyed about something daft like this makes you look ridiculous, and also makes it easier for people to argue that people voicing valid concerns are getting worked up over nothing. You're not helping, save your outrage for things that are actually worth it.

changeyerheadworzel · 11/06/2023 15:19

I blame the sunshine for making people a little bit mental.

GreenWhiteViolet · 11/06/2023 15:21

I see what you mean OP!

'Their outfit' is grammatically incorrect. It should be either 'her outfit' (one girl) or 'their outfits' (multiple girls).

I think other posters might be getting confused between your own grammatically correct words and your quotation from Next, which is in bold.

I suspect it's bad writing rather than ideology though, if the rest of the text is about girls.

rightioly · 11/06/2023 15:21

Is this a joke?

IncomingTraffic · 11/06/2023 15:23

I don’t know how anyone has the time or energy to get irate about this at all.

It’s really not trying to gender neutral anything. Especially not as it probably linked to a sea of pastel shades.

booboo82 · 11/06/2023 15:23

Oh your one of those aren't you 🤦‍♀️

Zebracrossings · 11/06/2023 15:25

Op a lot of big companies (and their adverts )are going pronoun or gender neutral . Even on here if you request to take down a post you are refferd to as they . Which is perfectly fine in my opinion. Like others said don't read too much into adverts , unless they are compelling you to buy a particular dress for your little one 😸😸😸

IncomingTraffic · 11/06/2023 15:26

Slightly shit grammar in the email aside, does this make you feel better OP.

Her face and the expected pink, flowers, hearts and shades of pastel. Plus some black and white.

Not even close to ‘gender neutral’.

IncomingTraffic · 11/06/2023 15:29

The boys page has ‘his summer style’ and the usual shades of murky offering.

Definitely no need to fear that next aren’t differentiating between bits and girls in exactly the standard, fits all the stereotypes, way.

Just a touch selectively picking in order to prove your point

but this selection from the boys section sure as heck doesn’t look “murky” to me

That was the key trends from the intro page for next boys clothes.

IncomingTraffic · 11/06/2023 16:43

You went with ‘holiday shop’ instead.

i didn’t. I selected boys and then “T-shirts and tops”

Rightiothen13 · 11/06/2023 17:40

Do the exact same for girls and also automatically highlights holiday shop on the menu bar. However this was not what was selected

mumofboys8787 · 11/06/2023 17:53

Oh shut up

I googled ‘next boys clothes’. It’s the landing page for that.

Presumably bright colours are more acceptable in holiday. 🤣
