This song from a relatively unknown 22 year old artist has blown up Tik Tok over the last week with over a million views for the teaser and thousands of spin off Tik Toks. The full song was released on YouTube and Spotify last night. The Independent has run an article describing how women are using the song to detail their own experiences of misogyny and give voice to 'feminist rage'. Some personal experiences shared are heartbreaking and intergenerational. Women from all over the world seem to identify.

There are interesting layers of meaning in the lyrics alluding to rape, domestic violence and coercion within a narrative about women's labour.

I haven't discussed it with anyone except my husband who was rather shaken by it. Interested to know what others think.

I’ve been seeing some great TikTok’s using this sound. Women of all different cultures / backgrounds sharing their stories and (rightful) anger.
There some slight backlash though because she posted a compilation of people using the sound and one was a trans woman (using the sound to talk about how hard it is to date as a TW - so not even relevant to the lyrics). I’ve seen lots of people responding negatively in videos, saying it feels like a spit in the face, which has then led to the inevitable arguments in their comments.
Its a shame because it was such a positive movement and a really powerful message.

I noticed that too - she's made a point of saying these issues are harder for women of colour, trans women and disabled women. So she's no feminist's dream but am I unreasonable to hope it doesn't derail what's been happening with her song?

So it’s not a feminist song then. Can women not have anything even a song without it having to centre males in some way.

Have you listened to it? Hard to see what it has to do with anything but feminism. Personal views of the song writer re trans women aren't mentioned. Listen to it and let me know. It is really powerful. Be a pity to bury the song in my view.
