Andrew Tate Protest: Promoting Negative Messages
Smogrocket · 12/03/2023 23:27
Hi,
Recently working with young men in my community, I have been appalled by simply how brainwashed so many of them have recently become by the current highly negative messaging on social media toughted by there so called TopG Andrew Tate.
Its beginning to feel like he has now single handily overnight reversed all the great steps forward that so many women have fought so hard to achieve over many years, which is totally unforgivable, as far as I am concerned. The way that many of these young men now perceive womens actual roles in society is out of the dark ages and there is no talking to them, you just get, TopG, Free TopG out of them.
Now, even worse many of them are now saying that they are going to be attending the mass Free Andrew Tate Protest taking place on Easter Bank Holiday Monday, a d many of them are also saying that they are actively going there to try and turn this into civil unrest to make sure their message get heard.
This is scaring me to death as it could quickly ruin so many of their young lives before they have even started, by them getting criminal records in the name of someone they don't even know and have simply been brainwashed by.
I know we have to fully support and allow freedom to protest, even if in this case I feel it is somewhat misguided, however after speaking with a couple of Police Officers on the matter they feel a simple change of location, would be the simple and amicable solution as a bigger areas like speakers corner would make it much easier for them to keep the Protest under control and therefore reduce the risk to the young men in involved.
I can, easily be totally onboard with this idea and have made a call to action video supporting it and asking the Mayor of London and The Met Police Chief Commissioner to at least consider asking the organisers to do so. Have a look and if you support this simple concept to reduce the risk of harm to our young people please leave a comment supporting.
Really sorry to bother you with this, but many thanks for your time in this matter.

I think he's a symptom not the cause unfortunately. He's a scammer who successfully targeted his scams to his audience - young men, and copied a lot of what was already successful/works best on the algorithms. Of course, as it happens he is much much worse than just a scammer but it was his scammer skills/the language he used which attracted people. Just like MLM scams aimed a women (juice plus etc) use language/manipulation to appeal to their demographic (boss-babe, women helping women, spend time with your kids AND make money etc etc) so Tate targeted his message. Some of it is basic psychology (be a hyper successful ALPHA is always going to appeal to teenage boys, school is for LOSERS will appeal to a subsection of those). But the misogyny is also there because it works and that's more worrying. It makes sense - if you want to encourage men to invest in a stupid ponzi scheme you need to motivate them- so it becomes "this is the only way to make lots of money, you need lots of money to attract girls because girls only like money, if you don't have lots of girls you're a LOSER who will be despised by all, therefore do my ponzi scheme". But the internet creates an odd feedback loop, especially with social media algorithms and it becomes more and more extreme. And the resentment of the scammed towards women grows.

I do think the way schools are going about fixing the issue is counter productive - its making him seem a lot cooler than he is and making teenagers feel like rebels against the system for supporting him. Which teenagers generally love. I would have thought using his content as a way of analysing manipulative language, how scammers pull you in etc would work better.

Also - this is the UK- it will likely rain on the day of the protest, the angry young men will chant "free the G etc", eat their mums sandwiches and go home. I think they're idiots but group of women lobbying to shut down the protest will prove that the matrix doesn't want him speaking the truth blah blah blah.
Let the tater tots have their moment. If any of them are dumb enough to assault anyone or cause criminal damage leading to a criminal record - that is their responsibility/learning experience. But I wouldn't worry.

If one man could do that, he'd be mighty powerful. I think it's much more the case that these young men were already thinking that but just didn't say it aloud to certain women. Now they've been given a vehicle to do so.

I watched a Tate video the other day to see what the fuss was about, and actually laughed out loud because he came across as such a ridiculous twonk. A kiddies idea of a what a 'cool teen' acts like, with a shirt that doesn't fit him, whanging on about his REALLY big cars.
Then it swerved into some actually horrifying statements about 'destroying' women or similar.
Agree that he seems to have slotted into some horrible intersecting vein of woman-hatred, consumerism, and a desperate fear of failure.
We should use this phenomenon to ask questions of young people, and society and societal values.

There were plenty of arsehole teenage boys around when I was at school who I think were not so different from Andrew Tate. The difference is there is now an "adult" who they can adopt as a figurehead under the false impression that this gives their ideas some sort of legitimacy.

It's not happened overnight and it isn't just about him, there are a larger number of extremely toxic websites and influencers spouting the same or similar misogynistic crap and there have been for a while. So much so that some of their lines end up in the general public consciousness or repeated by mainstream public figures (e.g. politicians, journalists)... such as men being worried about being falsely accused of rape, so trying to avoid certain situations. I saw this article today which gave me a bit of hope www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/mar/13/schoolchildren-online-misogyny-andrew-tate-pornography but really whatever schools are trying to do is far too little, far too late. And it also worries me a lot.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'

Well if it's any consolation most of the boys my DS knows at school cheered when AT was arrested. They call those at school who do think the sun shines out of his backside 'Andrew Tosspot Supporters' and walk away mid sentence if they start spouting his nonsense. He's almost 16. So there is hope!
ArabellaScott · 15/03/2023 11:59
Yes, my teen says AT is a dick. But it is clear that some boys are taken with the man.
Nellodee · 15/03/2023 12:38
For a lot of teen boys, he falls into that 4chan territory where arseholes like to spout hated and then fall back on the excuse that they were being ironic.
