Just read that Humza Yousaf has pledged to legalise sex-selective abortion if he becomes the SNP leader. Surely he can't get away with that?!

@Shelefttheweb on the contrary, it is a very accurate term. These are people who oppose any form of abortion, including very early medical abortions, TFMR and everything in between. They want to force all pregnant women to give birth, no matter what their circumstances, rather than avail themselves of safe, legal abortion. There really isn't a better way to describe them, especially since for them, it's all about the birth, and really not about anything else.

Are you one of them perchance?

They still give birth. Or explain to me how a 30-week foetus leaves the body? They don’t get reabsorbed!

@Shelefttheweb I have a friend who had a termination at 26 weeks because of a foetal abnormality incompatible with life. This was a much wanted baby. Forced Birthers would have forced her to carry to term and then give birth to a dead baby, adding 14 weeks of distress to her already horrific situation.

That is the point: it is about giving women the choice about how they deal with their situation, rather than forcing one path on them, which is what the Forced Birthers want to happen.

This is why they should be called Forced Birthers and not Pro Life or any other such whitewashing term.

You haven't answered the question I asked you.

Forced birthed is such a disgusting and inaccurate term. How do you think an aborted third trimester foetus actually leaves the body? You don’t get to not give birth just because the baby is dead.

It is a wholly accurate term. They want to stop abortion and force women to continue with pregnancies and give birth instead.🤷‍♀️

God he's the worst candidate! Still supports the gender ID bill. The 2 women candidates rang rings round him (that was effectively sky news summery)

I think this is a candidate appealing to a party that wants to eradicate women... and babies that will become biological woman. Sadly biology will be acceptable when it comes to killing females.

I doubt that such a law even if within the powers of the Scottish Parliament would get through, and even then a section 35 order would be served.

A women then presenting at 21 weeks saying she wants an abortion of a otherwise healthy foetus would raise questions.

The woman would likely have already gone through at least 1 scan and 2 midwife appointments where she will have said in some form that she wants to continue the pregnancy.

Okay, so the doctor asks the patient if she's changed her mind due to the baby's sex. She says no, she's just discovered her husband is having an affair, they need to focus on patching their marriage up, she'll be suicidal if she continues with the pregnancy. Or she claims something has triggered a traumatic childhood memory - basically, something has happened that has made her no longer want the pregnancy. What are the odds the doctor will still say no?

I don't agree with sex selective abortion. But on the other hand I thought on MN the consensus was abortion for any reason.

If you make it legal for women to choose abortion freely and without restrictions, some may abort for reasons you don't agree with (like sex selection).

But it's none of your business, or mine, why a woman would choose an abortion. It's up to her. Her body, her choice.

Yes it is a disgusting - and wholly accurate term, and an even more disgusting situation to be forced to be in.

You won’t get any disagreement on that.

This could backfire on him, as more and more women wake up to the reality of misogyny from people like Hamza. If you give these women the choice to only have female babies, why wouldn't they. Strength in numbers.

You can get a blood test at 10 weeks to find out the sex.

People don't get a late term abortion for fun. It's a tragic thing and involves a still birth.
