Survey question - how do you identify

I've just completed a post event survey.

One of the questions was "how do I identify as" - male, female, prefer not to say, can't remember if there were other options.
No comment field.

I was not given the option to say I AM female.

Why not challenge your anger to something genuinely important like child poverty or the dying planet.

Why don't you channel your patronising attitude elsewhere?
How do you know I don't care about poverty and the dying planet?
Do you only get angry about what you perceive to be important issues?

I care about this and am discussing it with those who share my interest.

They go on to say "We don't want to ask people what their sex is and what their gender is, as it wouldn't help us shape the content we produce. It helps us to understand our audience if we know how many people are women, or who identify as women. The difference between those two groups is of no consequence to how we create content."

What a load of meaningless BS. I’d ask them for a copy of these industry standards and would ask them to clarify how they can create content for females (remind them sex is a protected characteristic) if they’re including males in that.

What a load of meaningless BS. I’d ask them for a copy of these industry standards and would ask them to clarify how they can create content for females (remind them sex is a protected characteristic) if they’re including males in that.

They said "By industry-approved, I meant that in many surveys you fill out, this is the language that's widely accepted."

and "We won't be changing this method of communication, as we are not contravening any publishing laws, the vast majority of our audience is comfortable with our inclusive language, and we continue to aspire to be an encouraging and safe space."

So not industry-approved - just their preferred BS.

Their language isn’t inclusive - it’s excluding females who don’t identify as women by forcing a protected characteristic to accept males.

Regardless, you’re not going to change their mind sadly. Their small, narrow minds are made up.

Ask them for the evidence that backs up this statement. I bet that they haven't got any.
