Question about feminism

Julie Bindel said on a recent podcast or in an interview (can't remember where, sorry!) that she's not a radical feminist. She was quite clear on that.

I know she's about women's liberation though and i understand those povs.

Could someone explain what radical feminism is please? I suspect I lean somewhere around both but am not sure how.

She may identify as a lesbian feminist rather than a radical feminist.

It's collectively edited so anyone can write what they want.

Surely that would only bother people with somewhat 'unconventional' views. Like wanting to describe the BNP as a 'white liberation' organisation rather than a load of racist bastards (which is how the majority would describe them).

Lobby groups very often attack wikipedia pages to promote their cause or attack their opponent's cause

@Somebodiesmother "She may identify as a lesbian feminist rather than a radical feminist."

I assumed she was both....

I'd rather just follow the areas that interest me. I find that once people start to identify as xyz they then feel compelled to act as an xyz.

It's like the people asking for 'the feminist response' to something somebody has said to them so they can reply. It always makes me roll my eyes. Why wouldn't you just respond with how you feel rather than asking others to tell you exactly what you should be feeling.

I agree.
Maybe it's my evangelical upbringing, but I am too susceptible to policing whether I am or another woman is being a "good" (radical) feminist once I start down the label route.
I think the question, "Is it feminist to wear lipstick?" is the start of a really boring conversation, whereas, "What might a feminist understanding of lipstick be?" is the start of an interesting conversation. I want good feminist analysis, not good feminists.

@DontGetEvenGetEverything with bells on 👏

@WarriorN sorry, just realised my post makes it sound like I'm dissing your opening question.
I think it's good and helpful to look at differences between radical feminist analysis, liberal feminist, Marxist feminist &c. Just that I find it more helpful to describe ideas than label people (myself, mainly).

I understand what you mean - I think that's more why I'm trying to understand what the key aspects are.

Benji posted some things about radical feminism recently that made me think that, if that's what it is, I can see that it's problematic and perhaps my Stock and Bindel say they aren't.

Really, that was the purpose of my OP.

I don't call myself a GC feminist for the same reasons you describe.

But people are discussing issues based on labels - so we need to be clear what these terms actually mean politically and socially.

Even the man who invented Wikipedia says nobody should trust...Wikipedia.

It is well known to be updated by those with a bias, in the nicest possible way.

I think it is probably fairly reliable on things like the population of Scarborough or the social behaviours of hippos. It's where it starts discussing emotive and controversial philosophical topics that much salt is needed.
