I'm a Mr now

Buying some (women's!) rugby tickets online of all things and the only available titles were Miss or Mrs
I'm married but kept my birth name and use Ms if I must (prefer either no title or a professional title but that's another thread).

I spent so long going back and forth between which to choose that finally in frustration I selected Mr.
Hopefully my obviously female first name means I won't get denied entry

Congratulations on your transition! Do you feel any different?

Artemi · 13/09/2022 00:41

I'll let you know once the extra pay starts landing in my bank account ;)

I always go for something like ‘Empress’ or ‘Rear Admiral’. If I must have a title, it shan’t be dull. 😁

Flatmountains · 13/09/2022 08:14

I used to enjoy asking people what their title was, when I worked in a call centre. I got one Lord and one Reverend. The Reverend was jolly glad I didn't just say Miss or Mrs? Some men used to get into a right old tizzy when I asked what their title was.

Artemi · 13/09/2022 09:06

I wish I could have chosen something very impressive like Reverend or Captain, but unfortunately the ONLY options were Miss/Mrs/Mr!

That frustrates me too and i also would have chosen Mr given those options. It's so unnecessary.

IceStationZebra · 13/09/2022 09:09

Nice! I’m Mr for a couple of things like that. And I was Mrs when I wasn’t married, on a trade magazine that used to get delivered to the office, which used to wind a colleague up something rotten. She mentioned it every time the newsletter was delivered.

I’ll use any title there is, but I will not be dictated to!

They didn’t even have ‘Dr’? How weird!

I like Baronness, it sounds v grand

ThistleSifter · 13/09/2022 09:33

I’m a Dr, Lady, Mr, Ms, Miss, Mrs and even a Professor across different things. Absolutely hate the female title prefix smorgasbord so just go random, or leave it blank altogether whenever it’s an option.

Flatmountains · 13/09/2022 11:06

I used to get well pee'd off with one of my workmates who greeted all new female customers with "are you married"

Cherchezlaspice · 13/09/2022 16:35

@Flatmountains Why would they ask that?!

SudocremOnEverything · 13/09/2022 16:42

I am Mr on just about anything that didn’t offer Dr. I figure it’s actually the closest to the title I earned (one letter off). I’m not picking from the baggage laden female titles, thank you very much.

my bastard ex’s hideous divorce solicitor always addresses me as Mrs Everything. So I address him as Miss Smith back.

Flatmountains · 13/09/2022 19:24

@Cherchezlaspice apparently, so he knew whether the lady was miss or mrs. Didn't seem to occur to him that she might be dr or dame or something exciting like that.

Or just a Ms. Did you work somewhere that knowing this was relevant to his job? Or was he just weird?

Flatmountains · 13/09/2022 22:03

Insurance

charabang · 24/09/2022 00:31

I am Sergeant Charabang on my seed catalogues

ThistleSifter · 24/09/2022 01:20

When I was Dr (philosophically and of philosophy of course 😉), it really did mean I was able to exit unwanted wine club calls very quickly, both in terms of an initial back-foot assumption by them that you’re being interrupted from an important matter for their malbec upsell… and when you say you’re busy, the call immediately and apologetically ends.

Almost worth doing a phD for this marital-status neutral, sexually ambiguous titledom WITH basic respect as standard <chef kiss> 😃👍

LondonQueen · 24/09/2022 01:25

I used Baroness once, felt rather regal for the day.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 26/09/2022 11:25

Good on you, OP. If the only available titles are 'Miss' or 'Mrs' I would choose practically anything else over this. Not excluding 'Cunt'. It's a matter of strongly held principle.

Don't see why we need this silly, anachronistic aberration in the first place. A name is more than sufficient to identify a person.

They don't have 'Dr' on a lot of sites.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/09/2022 12:10

I've always done this, if I have to choose at title it's 'Ms', if there is no 'Ms' then I will always choose 'Mr'.

I still remember one hilarious phone conversation from the mid-90s. I was ordering something very bland for work, like toner or something. She was taking name and address and asked if I was Miss or Mrs, I said Ms and she absolutely wasn't having it. Said she had never heard of such a thing, then insisted that I must know whether I was married or not. I asked if marital status affected whether or not I was allowed to buy toner, and her response was something along the lines of not being silly, apparently she'd never heard the phrase "the customer is always right". I think it was a 'computer says "no"' situation where she had to use a drop down menu, although she could have just said that instead of insisting the Ms didn't exist. In the end I told her to make her best guess because I wouldn't be reading the label anyway.

Mandypocket · 28/09/2022 14:49

I love this! I might become a Mr too.

AlternativelyWired · 29/09/2022 23:35

Ooooh I'm going to have fun doing this!

Deathraystare · 21/10/2022 14:49

I once ordered from an 'alternative' clothing company.

The titles available to me were Mr or Mrs. Not even Miss was available!!
